The topic? The Salem witch trials." It's been a joy, but I might start skipping a few. Toby

Probably should have mentioned this earlier, or not at all. In France at the moment and coming to England in a week if anyone fancies a pint. It's still part of the EU right, or have I missed something?

*new* HOUSE Of ALL (and other news) . . .
Happy New Year, FFs! And Happy new House of All album! (And if you want to order it and don't find it at the link they provide, try this: https://houseofall.bandcamp.com/album/continuum) JC ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Tiny Global Productions <tinyglobalproductions@...> Date: Thu, Jan 4, 2024 at 6:49 PM Subject: *new* HOUSE Of ALL (and other news) . . . To: <j.a.curtis@...> ahem . . . It seems like a no-brainer now, but when we announced HOUSE Of ALL's self-titled debut last year, we weren't really sure what the reaction would be. Within mere hours, a former manager of The Fall objected to the group's use of Martin Bramah's phrase that referred to the band as part of "The Fall Family Continuum", despite at least one of each of the five members - Bramah, Peter Greenway, Paul Hanley, Steve Hanley and Simon Wolstencroft - having been a linchpin member at the beginning, middle and end of The Fall. The Guardian interviewed Bramah about the scandal with less than an hour's notice and within three hours, a long piece appeared on their website . . . but much of the controversy melted away once the quality of the album had become apparent. But as mentioned above, non one knew what the reaction to this idea of Martin's might be. So rather cagily, Martin asked reconvened the band in the studio before meaningful public opinion had formed - this second HOUSE Of ALL album is the result of the band's second studio foray. Two songs, Aim Higher and Murmuration, have been in their live sets from the start, so those lucky enough to have caught a show will be familiar with them. As this second session was granted more time to record and mix, and the band had really found their groove by that point, the results were as good as we'd hoped, and speaking for the label, it's about goddamned time we can talk about this beautiful new thing openly! HOUSE Of ALL will be playing lots of shows this year and there will be a few surprises here and there, too. PLEASE NOTE that the guys have agreed to again offer a limited edition of the LP on NEON VIOLET vinyl, but the quantity is more or less the same as on the last one, which sold out quickly. That version is only available from Bandcamp (although you can get regular black vinyl, too) and it's not going to last very long. PRE-ORDER Continuum HERE! And don't forget that the band have already announced a number of live dates, so do what you've got to do to get your tickets to the following: HOUSE Of ALL UK TOUR APRIL 2024 April 12 Leadmill Sheffield April 13 Stereo Glasgow April 18 The Dome London April 19 Hope & Ruin Brighton April 20 Gorilla Manchester April 25 The Wedgwood Rooms Portsmouth April 26 Esquires Bedford April 27 Waterfront Studio Norwich April 28 Hare & Hounds Birmingham Again with Bramah?!?! Ask yourself . . . why not? This expanded reissue of Blue Orchids' landmark debut album, The Greatest Hit (Money Mountain), is shipping now but still available for order. Reviews are out and they're all stellar and a little weird, like people are still coming to grips with how to best describe its brilliance, but the gist is great: Uncut believes it's a "post-punk landmark". Louder Than War claims it's "the re-issue of the year already . . ." MOJO thinks it "aggressively cosmic", and the stuff of "radical hedonism". The album would be better-known today if not for an odd quirk of fate upon its original release. The final song, "Mad As The Mist And Snow", is an adaption of a WB Yeats poem, with music by Martin Bramah. Unfortunately, Martin didn't realise that the Yeats poem hadn't yet passed into the public domain. So despite topping the indie charts and all signs of a good future beckoning, the album's original label, Rough Trade, was compelled to halt re-pressings of the album . . . just one factor that hindered a full-length follow-up for several decades. That said, the album was a cult hit and songs from it were covered by a wide range of artists: SST label band Slovenly, Scottish popsters Aztec Camera, downtown Manhattan geniuses and pre-75 Dollar Bill combo Fish & Roses, indie roc
