Hello,?
I hope all are well.?
I'm preparing to move and hope to avoid taking any cassettes or cassette players to the new house.?
I found my cassette of?"Good Evening, We are Not The Fall" this morning??
Does anyone have a digital copy they could please share??
Thanks

Hey Chris, good to hear from you!?
You know, there is actually a market out there for old cassettes, even weird home-made ones -- I'm hoping you're not just planning on binning your tapes (or the tape players, either, if they're actually working!)
I may in fact have an mp3 set of GEWANTF, I'll have to check when I get home later today, if no-one else steps up in the meantime.
Good luck with your move!

I was going to say that. Curiously people buy job lots of them on ebay. I sold a load of my dad’s Spanish (music) cassettes.
?
I guess they’re speculating that there’ll be something rare on there.
?
I’ve got a cassette of a short Wah Heat live set from Erics on the night the police turned up and shut it down and also a 3 song Damned live gig circa MFP. Both were played by Peel.
?
I have a long-standing plan to get them out of the attic and digitise them. That’s long-standing as in about 15 years!

Maybe people buy them to erase and re-use, especially if they're higher grade tape formulations. Unused and still-sealed cassettes can go for eye-opening sums of money.
Mind you, so can independent cassette releases from the 80s.

It's amazing, yes. I still buy new-old-stock cassettes when I see them in thrift/vintage stores if they're not pricey, because I still occasionally use a 4-track Fostex cassette recorder for music-making purposes.??

Indeed -- one of my home-made own-band cassette releases from the 1980s was picked up for a vinyl reissue a couple of years ago by a guy in Portland, Oregon who runs a label dedicated to reissuing old cassettes as LPs:?
This guy is obsessed with 80s unknowns on cassettes -- his Instagram feed is pretty much nothing but that. Interesting cultural relics.?
JC always hated the necessity of cassettes, myself, but have recently been warming up to the decent sound of current cassette releases..

I am reminded of this, from the Fall Gigography: March? April? 1979 ??Wellington Club, Hull Adam Marshall promises he'll dig out the set list Mark sent him after the gig. Mind you he's been promsing that since about 1997. No tape exists?

Indeed, the set list is in a box somewhere in the attic. I will very soon be single again so will be at liberty to have piles of filthy dirty partially decomposing cardboard boxes full of crap piled up all over the house which I then can explore at my leisure. I can hardly contain my excitement! adam ?On 06/03/2024, 17:56, " [email protected] <mailto: [email protected]> on behalf of Mark via groups.io" < [email protected] <mailto: [email protected]> on behalf of mountainoaf@... <mailto: [email protected]>> wrote: I have a long-standing plan to get them out of the attic and digitise them. JC :? ?Oh man. I have *so* many old cassettes I still need to digitize.. boxes and boxes?
Same.
Though almost every Peel show and session is out there in you tube etc so many of my favourite prices sound nothing like I was used to them.
My tape recorders were obviously not recording at the same speed as everyone else's.
Many albums or other people's recordings i get on cd or other medium are much quicker and brighter in the?performances.
Many artists are not what I thought and grooved to repeatedly dozens of times during those years I would listen to my small collection of cassettes over and over and over.?
Consequently I have ended up (largely thanks in large part to DJCarter) with multiple copies backed up.?
A lot of artists I would be completist about in the days before punk,? Joni Mitchell,? Jefferson Airplane,? Kevin Coyne and on are just better on them old?stretched? tapes

Chris,
I found this:?
Have you checked it out? I haven't downloaded any of them yet. I still may have a cassette of this somewhere!
Take care, David

Also re: cassettes I was looking forward to connecting my cassette deck to our stereo after we redid the living room, but there's no room in the cabinet. Hrumph. I'll do it in my little office at some point. I still buy cassettes from artists on Bandcamp, as you usually?get the digital download as well, and I have all my old tapes, including all the mixtapes I made for my then-girlfriend, now wife!? I also buy up NOS Maxells and TDKs to use with my four-track. Nothing like it.

Great find! I definitely have a copy of the cassette somewhere, but just now checking, do *not* have mp3s of this, so I'll be downloading it as well.
cheers! JC

Absolutely, glad to know I'm not the only one here still doing that. I do use some digital recording stuff, but there are just some things you can do with tape you can't do with digits.?
Hope your cassette deck is still working!?

I don't remember if we ever discussed with Jonathan Kandell why the cassette was dedicated to the memory of Mark E Smith, who wasn't to pop his clogs for another 20 years.?
?Was it a snide evocation of Fallnet's proclivity to be Look Back Bores?

Yes, I checked out that site and it's exactly what I was looking for. The bit rates are low. But I don't know how much better digitizing my own possibly nth gen cassette would be. And downloading was certainly faster.?
Thank you!?

I was also just wondering it this were a re-issue or something after I read that "dedicated to the memory of Mark E Smith" in the notes.?
Was there ever a volume two? I think I remember people talking about the possibility of one.?
