Here’s two good ones for a Friday afternoon.
?
Which 3 bands did you see when you were young or before they were famous that you can hardly believe you saw. I suppose you could include the fall.
?
Here’s my “starter for ten”:
?
- Destroy All Monsters in 1980
- Soft Cell in 1980
- Captain Beefheart in 1982
?
Which 3 bands can you believe you didn’t go and see when they played in your area. The Fall can of course be included.
?
- Kraftwerk 1981 (I forgot!)
- Ramones 1980
- Slits 1980
?
Go on then punks, make my day.

I saw Radiohead supporting Kingmaker in the (now sadly long-gone) Venue in Edinburgh.
There was also a juggler on a unicycle who kept dropping stuff and falling off the bike. He was great. I can't remember if he appeared before or after Radiohead. Follow that Yorke!
Oh, and Idlewild supported the Fall in the (also sadly long-gone) Cas Rock. At least I think they did, I was a bit drunk.

Also Radiohead supporting Kingmaker, Hull Tower, tho' without unicycliist.
Some years earlier, Queen at Hull Arts Centre
Some years later, Blur, 4th on the bill with Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary Chain. Quite loud, that one...

The first live act of any sort that I saw was Peter Hammill, supporting Marillion at Cardiff Top Rank on their 1983 tour. Unfortunately I didn't have enough education to appreciate PH as a significant artist, which I now regret. Years later a colleague gave me some Van der Graff tapes to listen to, and I wished I'd paid more attention to Mr Hamill at the time.
A few years later I saw Talk Talk on one of their last live tours.
I did see The Spice Girls just as they were getting big. My wife's from the south of France so we were down visiting her family when we decided to go to Cannes for the day, during the film festival. Walking into town, there was a cheap looking stage set up on the promenade, with what I first took to be a Spice Girls imitation-type group, until I realised it was the actual Spice Girls. So I saw them without trying, and without paying.
I'm trying to remember a support act who eventually became "big" but I don't think I saw any worth mentioning, or if I did, I've forgotten.

Agreed! Totes jelly. Still fairly amazed I saw the Stranglers in Texas twice in 1980-81....At Club Foot. Fairly remarkable that I sold some Thai stick to the Anti-Nowhere League and met the UK Subs in 1981 at Club Foot... Club Foot in ATX seems to be my focus here - also saw U2 there in 80 or 81 and didn't care much for them - still don't. Hah! Never got to the see the Fall until here:

The Only Ones supporting The Stranglers, Sept. 1977 The Users & Patrik Fitzgerald supporting The Soft Boys, Jan. 1978 Killing Joke supporting Joy Division, Feb. 1980
Missed & could've gone: AC/DC 1978 Richard Hell supporting The Clash, Dec. 1977 (I watched through a grimy window from the car park roof across the road; the gig was sold out). The Dead Boys supporting The Damned, Dec. 1977

Hello,
I think the closest I can come to ANY of the aforementioned (amazing) concert experiences is either
- Amy Winehouse, sober and in GREAT form, in 2007, right as "Back to Black" was starting to gain traction ?or -Arcade Fire, Fiery Furnaces, and the Unicorns on the same bill in 2003, when Arcade Fire was still being marketed as a local Houston band

AAAAGH! The Fall also played Club Foot in 1981 and I was not hip enough yet to be there. Sad.

There was also a juggler on a unicycle who kept dropping stuff and falling off the bike.? He was great.? I can't remember if he appeared before or after Radiohead.? Follow that Yorke!
Oh, and Idlewild supported the Fall in the (also sadly long-gone) Cas Rock.? At least I think they did, I was a bit drunk.

Are we certain the leader singer for the Amazing Alex Harvey Band wasn't actually Michael Palin hiding 'neath a wig?

Cole, Can we retroactively change their name to the Amazingly Awkward Alex Harvey Band? Perry PS it's tea time here on the West Coast!

Whatever, I love that following his departure they continued to tour as "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band (Without Alex)".
Bit like " His Granny on Bongoes (Without The Fall)".
