I was watching the Hit the North vid today and another thing that struck me about
that era (see also Ghost in my House) is MES doing Johnny Cash mannerisms
all the time. I've tried to articulate this before but struggled, it's something about
the way he cocks his head to the camera when singing certain lines.

It was certainly the time when I got hooked into The Fall as well, along with the
way they looked like such a jolly bunch in the videos. It must be great fun being
in The Fall, one assumed.

(The TNSG era was my intro to the Fall and I remember it was Smith's
vocal, er, what's the word, not mannerisms, maybe dynamics,
stylisations, dunno - if he was painting you'd say it was the way he
applied the paint, his brushstrokes etc - it was all that that really
hooked me).
