So my impression is that nobody?is really interested in a Zoom meeting. That's fine. I think in any case that what I'd like to do, once I finish reading the green paper, is write my own email to the Minister. I can then use that as a template that other people can copy in writing their own email. I'll post about this on the FB page and group and on Twitter. I hope you'll all send your own emails too.

I think that emails from a bunch of people will have more impact than, say, one email with a bunch of signatures, like we did for the email to?Higgs.

If you think this is a good plan, we can go with this rather than having a Zoom discussion about what to do.

I'm hoping that people won't dismiss this as unimportant just because it's municipal. I've read that municipalities will be essential in responding to the climate crisis. They won't be able to respond effectively as long as we continue electing complacent, status-quo candidates with our terrible electoral system.

If anyone is wondering how PR can work at the municipal level, let me know and I'll explain.

Thanks,
Vivian? ?

Subject: Time for chapters/all-volunteers call about the federal election: Doodle poll!
To: <fair-vote-canada-chapters@...>

Hey everyone!?

It seems like most people are expecting a fall election, but there's still speculation about a spring election.

So we need to be prepared just in case!

It's time to have a chapters/volunteers call to brainstorm and plan together what we can do this election on the local level to promote PR.?

Here's the doodle poll:

SURVEY

You probably saw I put out a survey to the?list. One of the reasons for that was to find people who might like to help locally before the election. (And on an ongoing basis, but elections give new people something clear to do and a feeling of something at stake - right before and right after elections are when people are most motivated).?

If somebody ticked the box on the survey that they're interested in helping locally I'm going to invite them to the meeting!

AND of course?if they are in your team area I will also send them to you on email to connect personally and get involved with whatever is going on.

Feel free to invite anyone who is interested from your area to join the meeting. It's not a "one rep from each area" thing. The larger the group, the more energy there is and different ideas.

Do not feel that if you (or your chapter) hasn't been doing anything and/or you have limited time you shouldn't attend. We need everybody!?Everything you can do at election time, big or small, helps.

I'll let you know when we have a date so you can share :)

Anita?

Re: My first NB report in a while

Sounds like an interesting experience, Vivian.

I was President of the Atlantic Provinces Student Liberals when a student at UNB but finally left the party when Chretien reversed their policy on “Free Trade” with the USA.

I like their rhetoric but not their performance. It’s really too bad that Trudeau is so stuck on another majoritorian electoral system that would favour his party.

It’s good to have PR supporters working for reform from within though. Let’s hope their future leadership is more progressive.

What we're doing is putting human faces of people who want a Citizens'?Assembly on Electoral?Reform on the 8300 cards that are going to Trudeau already.?

On December 12 we'll be sharing all the pictures on social media (facebook, twitter and Instagram) at this hashtag #MakeYourVoiceHeard.

Jenice Atwin has made a short video saying "yay" (basically) we will share, and I am awaiting similar videos promised by Nathaniel and Daniel (fingers crossed!)

We're also doing this in parallel with our UK counterparts - Make Votes Matter - same hashtag that day - so the idea is to get that hashtag busy!

As soon as I get a date and time I'll set it your meeting and we can all share the link with whoever might be persuaded to come!?

You can bring a regular holiday card or print off a picture of the one you ordered online or make something - it doesn't matter. (If you get really creative as a few people have, we'll share a close up of your card, too! :)

Thanks again, everyone!

Anita
