?
Hello Friends, The fabulous exposition of the San Francisco?Quilters Guild (SFQG) which happens every two years is coming up at the end of this month, Friday and Saturday, March 28 & 29. Hours on Friday are 10-6, on Saturday 10-5.?

I hope you can make your way to this event. It's in a beautiful location?at the?top of Geary Street in the exhibition rooms of St. Mary's Cathedral.?Check?out theSFQG?website here:
?
HG-5.png

This is my first show of the?year.?I'll be exhibiting my original fashions as well as doing a fabric purge from my collection, as I recently figured out I will not live long enough to use it all! (If you sew, you may be nodding your?head right now.) I?do?love all the fabric I have collected; now it's someone else's turn to?love it and perhaps even sew with it!

MaleCustomer.jpeg
Once in a while a man will try on my wearables. I have been getting requests for clothes for men these days. Someday!

OriginalShiboriVest.jpeg
I have?been working with wool recently, with indigo and arashi shibori. So many ideas!

StitchedShiboriTop.jpeg
A happy customer wearing a linen stitched shibori upcycled top.

I have a large collection of cotton and silk Yukata, which is what I use for my original designs,
which are inspired by Japanese kimono and Guatemalan huipils. Deconstructing a kimono is a meditation for me, as they were sewn by hand 50-100 years ago. I absorb the TLC that went into making these beautiful garments. I have traveled to Japan again and again, the Mother Lode. It's rich and satisfying and makes my heart sing!

Wishing you well!?

Best, Jan

??Action Alert: SAVE ARTS JOBS! - Sign & Share Support Letter to Fix Mural Law

?Support SB 456 and share with your network!

Dear Lisa,

?

Love murals? Want to save arts jobs in California??

We have an urgent action: support and share with your network!

?

Add your organization or your name to a (Ashby), a bill that fixes California regulations, allowing local governments to hire California muralists again. Current regulations require muralists to get a contractors license, which is expensive, onerous and not applicable to mural making. Let's fix the bill and save arts jobs!??

  • If you are a local elected official or city staff and/or you think your city would like to take a position on SB 456 (Ashby), please use the League of California Cities .
  • As an active advocate, share the action with your network, encouraging members of the creative community to express solidarity with visual artists, even if it is not their primary art form.?

Background

In 2023, the California State License Board began notifying cities that muralists fall within the definition of a "contractor" and therefore must carry a license for projects exceeding $500. To be in compliance, cities across the state have shuttered mural projects and artists are losing work. Authored by Senator Angelique Ashby, SB 456 would fix the regulation by providing a narrow exemption for muralists.?

?

SB 456 is sponsored by CA Arts Advocates and the League of California Cities, and is supported by the California Association of Public Arts Administrators.?

Thank you for helping to unify and build the strength of the California arts voice.

?

In advocacy,

?

Tracy Hudak??
Director of Field Engagement & Advocacy

Waffles for Ukraine!

OK! Someone said "I want to do something for Ukraine, but I don't know what I can do" and KO said, "We can sell Waffles [Belgium] because it's time to stop waffling about helping Ukraine! & because I made a good recipe for Belgium waffles with Lemon sauce and it's lemon season.. I will need lemons...? Anyway, it just took off. Harold at Art House Gallery offered the space, we met the Borscht club of Berkeley.. Some people want to read poetry , others offered art to be auctioned, Musicians promise to drop in.. Still need to iron out help with the door and the "housekeeping, but sure it will also happen. The "We The People" part of the USA will have to deliver because the current administration is not to be trusted.

Please SAVE THE DATE and share the poster below and choose love!.... KO

Our philosophy is to encourage students to explore and express themselves, emphasizing practice over product, without judgment, comparison, or criticism.

Each camp day has plenty of structure and practice, and we have lots of fun in the process. I love to work with each student, one-on-one, to see what their unique interests are!?We demonstrate a variety of methods and ways of making art to nurture artistic development. We also provide lessons on color theory, and famous artists in art?history,?and host special guests to spark the creative process.
