Pinball Expo Roundup
The Pacific Pinball Museum had an amazing time at the 40th Anniversary Pinball Expo held last month in Chicago! Our Founders Michael Schiess & Melissa Harmon and Director Evan Phillippe were happy to have been able to deliver our museum talks, and connect with other nonproft pinball endeavors. Thanks to for letting us partner with them and sponsor the seminars! We saw many familiar, and some legendary faces (look at that special pic with Roger Sharpe and Doug Watson!) and made valuable new contacts to further our special nonprofit mission. The pinball community is alive and well.

Aurora School

Aurora School¡¯s mission is to nurture students' love of learning by cultivating academic excellence, emotional intelligence, and social engagement.

We are an independent, progressive K-8 school in Oakland. Our teachers foster academic excellence and problem-solving skills with a focus on social justice and project-based learning.?

Social-emotional learning is essential to our curriculum, with an emphasis on self-awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Our community of students, parents and staff practice empathy, kindness, and inclusivity, and move through the world with positive intention.

Learning at Aurora happens in multi-grade classrooms, where students in grades K/1, 2/3, 4/5 and middle school share learning spaces. Older students have the opportunity to mentor younger students, who become mentors themselves the next year, forming friendships beyond their age groups, and supporting learning at all levels.

Our Middle School curriculum features project-based learning in STEM and humanities. Students start with questions like ¡°how do we prevent and respond to discrimination?¡± or ¡°how can the study of nature inform robotics?¡± Drawing from classroom lessons, guest speakers, and weekly excursions they create culminating presentations demonstrating the applications of what they¡¯ve learned.

Aurora has been a progressive education trailblazer since our founding in 1988. We have one of the lowest teacher/student ratios, and largest school libraries, of any East Bay independent school. An Aurora education is grounded in STEM and humanities, along with art, music, Spanish, library, and physical education. We offer flexible tuition to ensure economic diversity.

The best way to see what makes us special is to come visit our historic campus, located just off Highways 13 and 24 in Oakland. We have scheduled tours on Fridays for Lower School (K-5) and Thursdays for our Middle School (6-8). We can also schedule a tour at your convenience.?

If you¡¯d like to learn more about Aurora School, visit , email admissions@... or call 510-428-2606, extension 204.

We are participating once again in East Bay Open Studios. Weather looks good right now so we will have some 20 lamps in garden with 70 more in showroom.
There will be snacks and a nice garden setting to hang out in.
My vision is guided by balancing logic and structure with openness, creativity and improvisation. My lamps are all one or two of a kind featuring unexpected forms that develop organically as i work. They are made using mostly recycled and up-cycled materials: including glass, metal, ceramic, and stone.?

The Holiday Project Sextet is one of the few small ensembles in the country to present innovative reconstructions of Christmas Pop and Chanukah songs along with timeless Spirituals. The most daring work is a melding of Martin Luther King's favorite spiritual "Precious Lord" with Aaron Copland's ballet score to "Appalachian Spring".? The group is lead by award-winning composer/arranger Michael Smolens and features?some of the most creative touring jazz instrumentalists in the Bay Area, along with a?stunning gospel vocalist. ?The project has been featured at the Herbst Theater, as well as numerous concert series and house concerts.

"Terrific ensemble. ?Congrats on your performance today."? ¡ª Cory Combs (SFMUSIC DAY Artistic Director)

"Michael¡¯s arrangements and compositions are masterfully crafted, played by?some?of the?most accomplished musicians in their respective fields. ?These pieces?take the listener on a?three-dimensional musical experience that is delightfully?unpredictable. ?He seamlessly?weaves style and meter changes, pairing improvisational with fully written sections,?into a journey that incorporates influences from around the world and song forms from?across the centuries." ¡ª Ellen Robinson (jazz recording artist/composer/educator/choral conductor)

"A truly inspiring ensemble . . . Your version of 'Over My Head, I Hear Music¡¯ perfectly illustrates?the meeting place of Spirituals and Jazz.¡±? ¡ª Rev. Carolyn Douglas

Outside of Nashville, TN, we attended a birthday get-together with old time musicians from all over and prepared a huge gumbo with sausage we brought with us from Louisiana. We spent a week in New York, walking, visiting, going to some museums, capped off with a performance at one of our favorite festivals, the Brooklyn Folk Festival, and tunes with Nora Brown, Samoa Wilson, Stephanie Coleman, Libby Weitenaur.? Subject: Part time job needed at a non profit

?
My husband needs a part time job at a non profit 30 hours a week for a couple of months to fulfill an obligation with the Federal Government for his student loans. If you know any non profit that is looking for a short term worker please let me know. Kay 925-676-3696. He has worked a variety of jobs over the years but the last 10 years in financial aid for different colleges and universities so he understands government contracts FYI but is willing to do almost any thing the salary is less important than the job.
