As to Apple support or assistance. I have yet to have one of their people refuse to help, if it is a software issue.

I recently experienced some push back on old and what they classify as obsolete hardware, a 2008 MBP, specifically. You can skirt the objection a bit, if you can relate it to a newer version, such as, will it sync or is compatible with this newer hardware or software. If asked politely, they might bend policy, but Apple has begun to remove or hide, support documents, and old software installers. Also on the older stuff, newer employees may just not know.
