believe it has something to do with the 16 inch bed being designed for use with
a BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) motor which drives the spindle directly via a
belt. The only SIEG lathes that I know of that have this arrangement are the
Micromark 7x16 and the LMS Hi-Torque 7x12. The lathes that use the HI/LO gear
arrangement are setup to drive the counter shaft with the HI/LO shift gear.
?
I'm
sure it could probably be made to work with the HI/LO gear HS (Head Stock) but
it might be more work that it is worth.
?
I seem
to remember something about the motor mount being different
also.
?
Chris
at LMS might have other reasons as to why it won't work or at least why it is
not recommended.
