My wife and I are planning to call the Mosquito folks tomorrow to sign up for the service and let them know how many others from the neighborhood will be calling to set up their own services. So far, i have three other households who are interested (219, 222, and 228), bringing the total to 4. Remember, if we get 5 or more, we get 100 dollars off per family, bringing the cost of standard treatment to 300 for the whole summer. Please let me know if anyone else is interested, and I'll call Mosquito Squad tomorrow to let them know of our neighborhood arrangement. Thanks, Mike --- In 11thSEblock@..., "michael.sollberger" <michael.sollberger@...> wrote:

Campaign Finance Reform
Brian Pate
Neighbors, You may be aware of a city-wide effort to place a significant campaign finance reform proposal on the November ballot. ?If passed, the proposal will ban corporate contributions to DC election campaigns, constituent service funds and transition committees. ?In order to be placed on the ballot, the initiative must collect 22,000 signatures city-wide, including 4,000 from Ward 6 registered voters, by July 3rd. ??
You can learn more about the initiative at: ?. I'm helping organize signature collection efforts in Ward 6, and am actively seeking volunteers to collect signatures during the April 3rd primary and at other civic events throughout the Ward 6. ?If you're interested in lending a hand for an hour or two, please drop me an e-mail and I'll get you linked up with the Ward 6 coordinator.
Thank you, Brian

Update on Mosquito Squad
Hello all,
I just spoke to Terry Selba over at Mosquito Squad of D.C. He said if more than 5 families in the neighborhood sign up for the service, they can extend a neighborhood discount of 100 off dollars per family. So it would take the cost from 400 dollars for the standard seasonal treatment package to 300 dollars. Plus, each family can choose a different type of spray - so if you want to have the all-natural treatment (which is 535, or 435 with the neighborhood discount), that's fine, and others can still have their yard treated with the standard treatment. As an added bonus, if you sign up and make your payment before March 31, we can get an additional 10 bucks off per family. Also, it doesn't sound like this needs to be all that coordinated - each family is on their own payment plan and chooses their own treatment as I said. We just need to let them know who is in and where our neighborhood is, and then each family can call separately, reference our neighborhood plan, and set up their treatment plan. More information on the various treatments, visit their website here: Terry was exceedingly helpful - and as you can see on their website, the company has some excellent testimonials and comes highly recommended by Angie's List. But if you would like to contact Terry directly with your questions, he can be reached at tselba@... or you can call their main line and ask for him, 571-830-8002. I think we are definitely going to sign up for the standard treatment (which by the way is also safe for pets, kids, and plants - they just recommend your kid/ pet not stand out there while they're spraying or something and give the treatment about 30 minutes to set before going out to play and roll around). Let me know if you decide to join us, and i'll call them before the end of the week and tell them we have X number of families interested in the 200 block of 11th St/ Gessford Court area, and that they should expect each person to call to set up their treatment. Just remember when you call to let them know we are entitled to a neighborhood discount. Happy to try to answer any additional questions you may have - otherwise, you have the necessary contact info for the experts at D.C. Mosquito Squad. Mike |
Re: Mosquito Squad - Any Interest?
Our sentiments exactly - we'd be interested but are concerned about the toxicity for bugs, kids and animals -- and even more concerned if our entire two blocks are going to get sprayed.

I'm pretty sure that we would be interested too, depending on what kind of discount we could get and if our landlords would approve. We've tried nearly everything, with little luck. Depending on the group rate, we'd probably be interested. We had it bad last summer. The stuff we bought at Fragers wasn't enough.

Mosquito Squad - Any Interest?
Hi all,
My wife and I are considering contacting the Mosquito Squad of Greater D.C. to see about getting our patio area sprayed over the course of the summer. We have heard great things, so thought we'd look into it. Is there any interested in the Gessford Court area/ 11th St 200 block in trying to get a group rate? The more of us who do the mosquito spraying, the better for the whole neighborhood! Here is some pricing information: Standard Seasonal Treatment Package - $400*: Treatment every 21 days, weather permitting, using our traditional solution provides consistent 85%-90% protection against mosquitoes and adult ticks all season long. Premium Seasonal Treatment Package - $535*: Treatment very 14 days, weather permitting, using our traditional solution provides outstanding protection all season long. This is perfect for those with extreme mosquito problems. Natural Seasonal Treatment Package - $535*: Treatment every 14 days, weather permitting, using our 99.3% natural garlic solution. Our natural solution provides a 60%-65% reduction in the mosquito populations calling your yard home. |
Meeting Reminder - Mayor Gray and the Future of Res 13
Brian Pate
Neighbors,
Just a reminder that several of the near ANC's are hosting a meeting tonight with Mayor Gray to discuss the future of Reservation 13.? If you've been following this, the Mayor is negotiating with the Redskins to place a training facility on approximately 30 acres of the 55 acre site.? Many wonder how this will impact the Reservation 13 Master Plan, a plan constructed through a community driven process over a decade ago. ?
The meeting is at the DC Armory from 7PM to 9PM.? If you plan on attending, please bring some form of ID to get through security.??Doors open at 6:30PM.
?
Hope to see some of you there.? Let me know if you can not attend and have a question you would like addressed.
?
Regards,
Brian |
Re: Marathon Contact Numbers
Dear Brian:
?
????? Thanks.? This marathon is so disruptive for the neighborhood.? I could not get out of the neighborhood heading north so I could not attend my dance class for the 3rd year in a row.? I oppose this disruption and hope you consider all of our needs when such an event is planned.? The Marine Corps marathon does not disrupt residential neighborhoods.? Why can't this race be planned in the same way?
?
Best,
Ellen
