Re: Alley update, a party?
And I should add, as I forgot to, many thanks to all of you who also helped make all these postive developments on our block happen. Wouldn't have succeeded otherwise.
Plus I wanted to officially welcome our two new neighbors -
Kara and Michael in 223 11th st
and
Jonathan, Kristen, Theo, and Henry in 221 11th st.
Great additions to the block!
I hope this party will be a chance for everyone to meet them and each other.

I am attaching a couple of photos we took this weekend showing all the fun that was had.
To officially inaugurate the improvements in the alley as well as the fixing up of 221 and 223 11th st (WOW, who thought that would ever happen!) I thought it would be fun to have a block alley party one weekend afternoon. Block it off from cars and we could have a potluck with tables set up and food and drinks. I mentioned this to some folks and everyone seemed to like the idea.
So, I was thinking weather willing we could aim for the end of April. Would either Saturday, April 30, or Sunday, May 1 work for folks, say 4pm? Let me know what you think and then we can firm this up.
Thanks!

Hey Friends and Neighbors -
We wanted to invite you all to join us this Thursday March 24th from 6 - 8pm at The Corner Store for a cocktail party to learn more about The Hill Center. The Hill Center is an incredibly exciting new community center slated to open this summer in the Old Naval Hospital, just a few blocks away at 9th and Pennsylvania Ave. You may've noticed the construction that's been going on there for the past several months. The historic restoration is an amazing process in itself as the building is an architectural treasure that has been allowed to deteriorate for far too long. But perhaps more important, The Hill Center will provide our neighborhood with another community meeting place that will offer something to residents of all ages and interests. In addition to a range of classes, exhibits, lectures, performances and social programs, the environmentally friendly campus will provide a unique venue for special events and
conferences, a family friendly caf¨¦ in the old carriage house, as well as office space for local nonprofits.
The Capitol Hill Community Foundation gave vision to this project and has been working tirelessly for the past ten years to bring this wonderful resource to life. This is a $12 million project, and just over $10 million has been raised to date. Of this, $1.2 million has been quietly raised from members of our Hill community, which represents ?10% of the whole budget for the renovation and start-up of the Hill Center. ?The Hill Center needs to raise an additional $2 million and we are spreading the word wider, seeking support from many other members of the community. As a part of this effort, the Hill Center is holding a series of cocktail parties around the Hill to introduce the newly named Executive Director, Diana Ingraham and solicit the support of a broad cross-section of the Hill community.
We hope you'll join us
Thursday evening at The Corner Store to learn more and consider ways that you may be able to contribute to this important campaign. And while we hope you will financially support the effort in whatever way you can, what is most important to us is that you come out and learn about the opportunities the Hill Center has to offer to our neighborhood.
Check out their website to learn more and see a great video about the vision for the Hill Center:
If you can join us Thursday, please RSVP to Ann Goodwin at or 202-546-8483.
Hope you all enjoyed this beautiful weekend in our lovely neighborhood. And we really hope to see all of you on Thursday
evening.
Cheers!

You'll have noticed the signs that went up on the north end of the block this weekend for tree prunning to happen later this week. This was a result of my request to the city. I specifically had asked awhile ago to get the tree directly in front of our house (219) pruned.
