Dear Antonia,
Take this opportunity
to clean D.C.'s air!
Over the past two
years, Congress significantly cut dangerous pollution from the Capitol Power
Plant that put families in the District at risk. Now, the Capitol Architect is
seeking approval from the EPA to upgrade the plant to make it more efficient,
and reduce energy costs. Unfortunately, as part of the approval process, the Capitol Architect is asking the EPA to
approve pollution limits based on the plant's emissions from three years ago,
before the plant's emissions were lowered.
The EPA has the
opportunity to ensure we don't return to the dirtier air of three years ago. We
deserve clean air and healthy?communities in D.C. ?It's time to move the Capitol Power Plant
beyond coal for good, and cut its dangerous pollution so families, kids and all
D.C. residents can breathe easier. Don't let the capitol backtrack on its improvements for clean air!
?
The District's air is unhealthy, so there's no reason to go back to the higher emissions of three years ago. According to the American Lung Association's most recent report, D.C. received an F for ozone and a D for particle pollution.1?We know the Capitol power plant can meet much lower pollution limits than what's being requested by the Capitol Architect. The plant's been releasing lower emissions for the past two years.?
Thanks for all you do to protect the environment,
