That's a great recommendation, Meg. I called 311 and registered a request for rat abatement. It took no time, and they said the city would come out in about 5 days to investigate and put down poison (the poison only affects rodents, not people, dogs, cats, etc).
Also, if anyone is composting, PLEASE make sure you have it in a tightly secured bin. Also, please pick up after pet waste, as this can also attract rats.

Great recommendations, Mike!? (You seem to know a lot more about it than I do!)? I did some quick research on the city¡¯s Dept of Health site and found this gem: .? Good information for the future but for now it looks like we should perhaps register more than one call to 311 () to urge them to get out to our alley quickly?

Hello neighbors,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my wife and I spotted rats running around the Gessford Court alley this weekend. I'm calling the city today to see about the city's rat abatement program, and will report back what I learn. In the meantime, I strongly urge everyone to ensure they are NOT leaving food items out in their back patios, watch pets closely to ensure they are not eating rat droppings, and please clean up any weeds
or grass around your backyard entryway so the rats have fewer places to hide. Please also make sure garbage is secure - I'm not sure what to do about this situation so please feel free to chime in if anyone has other suggestions.
