I've gotten the playlist loaded and downloaded a class, but it didn't load to to external HD on Drive E.? It was saved somewhere in drive C on the laptop.
Can anyone help me with what the problem may be?
I'll attach photos.? Tech savvy help needed.? I've emailed Allavsoft, but it's 1AM there, so there won't be much help for awhile.

Here's additional information about the situation.
There's an Allavsoft file in Documents on Drive C of my laptop.? When a class downloads that's where it is saved. The I have to manually send it to the External Drive E.? I've got a setting wrong somewhere.
Help!
Mary.

Yes, it might be in your Allavsoft folder. If you don't specify the download location correctly, it goes there.? I've attached?a screenshot of where?you specify it. Go to wherever the preferences are. On a Mac, they are under?Allavsoft -> Preferences.

Jaya,?
That's exactly where it is.
I've paused all of the downloads b/c it's obvious that I may have a couple of settings that just aren't right.? I've entered the file location, but not on the screen you're showing, so I'll correct that.
Also,? I've noticed that even though I thought I had correctly configured it to download entire classes in one go, it's downloading individual episodes and putting them individually into the Allavsoft folder on drive C.? Then I have individual episodes instead of whole classes.? Big problem to fix there.
So I've got more questions:
1.? I think the best approach is to delete everything in the Allavsoft download queue and the episodes I've saved.? Then I'll have a fresh slate on E drive and in the software. 2.? Go back to square 1 to check all settings. 3.? What does it mean to "convert" and to "merge"?? Is that something I need to do or does Allavsoft do those operations on its own? 4.? Reassure me that if configured correctly,? the entire course should download as one entity that will play all the way through once downloaded.
I sort of understand what's going on with the process, but am very unsure of myself since its new territory.? Learning curve!

I don¡¯t really want the entire class in in one video. When I go back to rewatch classes, I¡¯ve noticed I go back to specific topics. With the Craftsy app, I could go to the specific location for that topic quickly. Now I can¡¯t as easily but I¡¯d rather have to scan through an episode for that sort of thing than a whole class video. So I don¡¯t know that I can help you with that.?
Maybe reading that article again will have some tips on doing it. I scanned the parts that didn¡¯t apply to what I wanted and didn¡¯t really read the whole thing in-depth.?
You should be able to merge episodes into one class using video editing software later, if you want to. That is pretty simple video editing.?
As for the external drive thing, that article clearly said it was problematic. That is why I chose to clear up stuff on my hard drive and download to it and then move.?
The Merge folder might have to do with merging the classes. Why don¡¯t you experiment with it with one class? I didn¡¯t explore those settings in that Preferences menu but there are some options that seem to indicate that it would merge items. Beware though that it doesn¡¯t merge all your classes into one file.?
I found that the Merge folder had thumbnails for the episodes when they were downloading and once the .mp4 was created, they disappeared. I never saw anything in the Convert folder when I looked.
Just for your info - it only took me 2-4 hours on two days to download my 24-ish classes.?

Mary,
I have a new SSD drive with usb3 so it is very fast. I¡¯ve had no issue writing directly to it.?
Changing everything like the ?default write-location in settings is a lot safer than just doing it on the download screen.?
I think the merge is only for F4f files, not mp4. But other video editing software like Camtasia could stitch them together. Like Jaya I prefer lesson-by-lesson because it¡¯s easier to navigate.?
The naming convention of the downloads makes it easy to copy them into folders because if you sort by name they will be grouped by class. You¡¯ll still have to create individual folders for each of them.?

Shannon,? I began the download process, using Allavsoft with an brand new external HD attached to the laptop.? The external drive is 3 Terabytes with a nice, heavy duty cable.? It should be ready for the job.
I had mixed success so far and have paused the operation.? I attempted to have the download go directly to the external HD, but it nevertheless defaulted to my Allavsoft folder on drive C.? I'm going to re-check my settings and give it another try today.? The Settings screens are what I'd describe as "sensitive" and sometimes revert to the default.? I don't think I've neglected to make sure the settings are saved, but I'll definitely check that too.
So Shannon and Jaya,? both of you then manually move all of the episodes for one class into a designated class folder?? That's ton of work, but I'm willing to do it if that's the best method to use since I'm downloading my entire playlist.
I did email Allavsoft about the external drive as the destination for the download.? They responded quickly.? It certainly appears that they don't really recommend having the downloads sent to an external drive b/c it may cause a download failure.? Here is Allavsoft suppport's response:
Please to set the hard drive as the output location and then move the? downloaded files to your external drive. Please click Option-> General ->Browse to select your hard drive as? output location. If you still insist use an external drive as output location which may? cause download failed, here is guide: If you use an external hard drive, let's say, the external hard drive? is named X:, then simply set "File Naming" to? "X:\mybluprint\%(title).%(ext)" in "Option - Preference...", and then? resume all downloadings by Pressing "Ctrl + F5" in Allavsoft.
Obviously,? I'm still a little lost with this process!? Anyone with any suggestions, chime in, please!

Mary, Shannon has a different?type of HD which is much faster. Also the speed over her connecting cable is faster -it is not the size of the cable but the speed of transfer. That is why hers worked to an external?HD.?
What I recommend is that you set up a folder and do a few classes?first. Move the files to another folder and delete?the temporary?files that the program creates, which are all the files?that don't have an .mp4 file type. Then do a larger number of classes. As you download them, archive them in your class library. Once?the process is working, you can download the rest of your library. It won't download archived classes.
The files are named 'class number - episode?number - title of episode?- class name' so they tend to get sorted together and you can easily identify them later.?
You have a lot of classes, right? Do 5 in a batch. You should be able to do 3-4 batches a day and you'll get them all done.
