Re: Made myself a scrub cap

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

DH travelled from Heathrow to Geneva yesterday (only 17 flights in 9 hrs from terminal 2, few passenger flights? going from anywhere else). He said the big passenger waiting area pre gate was almost deserted, but he saw a woman pull her suitcase through, wearing goggles, a respirator with dual filters *and* a full face shield and accompanied by four children wearing no protection at all. Clearly she was anxious about her own health (and she may have had reason). It¡¯s just interesting to see how different individuals approach public experiences at present.

You look good! But the problem is real. I feel the same way when I see people in full PPE in public in photos. Somehow inside the hospital setting, when I see photos of them, they seem OK. In public makes me really feel scared.

?

It is very difficult to be a patient these days and the healthcare workers like you are doing such a fantastic job!

Re: Trip down memory lane and other musings

There is no asymmetry in any one mask. But each mask is different. And yes, they feel wonderful. However, I had to starch them to be able to work with them because they are so fine and soft.

Today I went through her button stash and found buttons for my hemp top. 4 buttons will be visible so they needed to match. The rest will be hidden so don't need to match but need to look nice should I wear it open as a light jacket.

Unfortunately, I made the fabric too wide (better than too narrow, I guess). So I have to cut two pieces lengthwise (warpwise) as well as of course, widthwise (weftwise) to make it the right size. It needs to be 23" of fabric total before seaming and I have fabric that is 10" wide. I can go up to about 25" and increase the seam allowance since my fabric is much lighter weight and gauzy than the pattern I'm sort of following.?

All this means more planning because?I think I need 7" width in the center for the neck width. I may end up doing it asymmetric like the original

Perhaps it¡¯s because the ditsy floral is definitely homemade and the bold hospital blue is thought to be commercially made?

Connie

make a mask in a ditsy floral people see it as just a little piece of
fabric, but the exact same size in a bold hospital blue is seen as
likely to prove effective against coronavirus......I had not taken
that into consideration initially.

Re: Made myself a scrub cap

You've got a great fit there, did you have to design the pattern from
scratch?

I get the difficulty connecting with patients when togged up like that. My
parents would be really alarmed by such an outfit (but we're all going to
have to get used to it). I suppose making the cap in something bright and
non-threatening or silly (orange chrysanthemums, purple cats, you get the
idea) would both look less scary and provide a talking point.

I'm noticing that the fabric I make masks in affects how far people
perceive they might be effective (which is interesting, apparently the
colour chosen for capsules in the pharmaceutical industry can affect their
perceived effectiveness and the Far East prefers different colours and
combinations to Europe). So if I make a mask in a ditsy floral people see it
as just a little piece of fabric, but the exact same size in a bold hospital
blue is seen as likely to prove effective against coronavirus......I had not
taken that into consideration initially.

I do!! Marguerite just read Dinosaur Stomp with her T Rex all by herself last week. ?

Maybe consider adding some horns like owls have to make the cap a little more silly...?

Re: What a Thursday!

I also really enjoyed Circe, but then again, I have been interested in myths since childhood.

The story is cleverly told and unspools the other side of the story - the woman's side, and the results, extended to their logical conclusion, provides nice unexpected resolutions.
