The "Refresh all existing map tiles" checkbox says to only updates tiles that you have downloaded before. Since you don't have any previous tile files, there are none to be updated. Uncheck that box,

New install of YACC on a pi with the new May 2020 buster load. Open program, configure settings and run for a while. Close program and about 2 seconds later it opens again. The second time I close it

Yes, it does. Hmmm... so you should have the latest version of YAAC as of when you ran the KM4ACK script, and build 151 was posted on May 20th. Did you enter your station location correctly?
