Per chance, did you _drag_ the mouse (move it with a button pressed)? Or did you brush the mouse wheel when you moved it?
The map uses the mouse wheel as a (ridiculously sensitive) alternate zoom control. If you don't like that, you can go to the expert-mode Configuration dialog and disable this feature; look on the Behavior tab.
Similar issues can occur if two fingers simultaneously touch a mousepad or touch screen.
