I've also noticed that if you play around with the dashboard nodes and they are not performing like you expect, you might want to restart Node Red.? I've posted many dashboard questions in the nodred.org forum about unexpected behavior and gotten replies that the dashboard is old and antiquated and they are putting very little effort into updating it.?
Good news is, they are working on a new dashboard back end that will hopefully provide more functionality on spacing and placing nodes/groups/tabs on the dashboard.
