The problem with Amazon carrying them is their markup. When I was looking at the RSP Duo it was 30.00 more from HRO through Amazon than direct from their website. I wanted to use them as I had a credit. I reached out to HRO about it and they told me it was due to their fees which apparently are obscene.

Almost everything on Amazon is more expensive due to those fees. That's how Bezos is one of the richest men on earth.? My wife has prime and every time she offers to buy something I want a quick search finds it for less.? The "free" shipping is because they include it in the price then mark it up.? I'm also surprised how many items don't "qualify" for free shipping.? There are quite a few items where it is cheaper to buy locally!? Which I prefer anyway.

Peter P/S., I might want a couple more of these things to play with and would prefer to buy from the person who made them possible. On 8/17/2019 6:05 PM, Vince Rooney wrote:

Cost of $60 plus $1.70 to Alibaba for the Mastercard transaction fee. Seems plenty fair, especially considering all the trainwrecks they would see when shipping to random people half a world away. tabaoFOCUS might work, a little cheaper, seems a bit higher risk. Perhaps someone in the group could buy in the batches of 50 for $35 each, charge $60 via paypal, distribute them locally. Jerry, KE7ER On Sat, Aug 17, 2019 at 11:26 AM, Jerry Gaffke wrote:

I bought a nanoVNA from Banggood many weeks ago. There was an order row also indicating prices. My order was in the low 100 and price was low ; The number row went up to 700+ with a price around $60; I had to wait for the usual delay but I received the complete package ; VNA +2cables + 1 through SMA+open+Load +short+usb cable. It seems the original nano ;black with shields, two red leds. On switch on it displays : nanoVNA---- GEN111.tabao.com . There was no bat but I found one at Alieexpress as mentioned in the group here. 4 traces soft was loaded, 50KC to 900MHz,broadband calibration was ready. Works perfect also with the PC Sharp soft V1.03 under Windows 10 and I can export Sparameters to other programs. I compared only passive circuits until now and they confirm with my HP8753ES( of course not the same dynamic range ) At banggood nanoVNA now is a new batch at $60 in the mean time. Lot of info also published is the group is on the site and also a link to the soft. I am very happy with it although it is very fragile and far from" student-proof". Of course some extras would be very welcome. I just think Banggood is reselling it for Tabao; 73's Jan ON4MMW -----Original Message-----

I see three different marketplaces from which to buy one of Hugen's builds You can buy from him through taobao, though you have to deal with a website in Chinese and $20 shipping charges: /g/nanovna-users/topic/32309232 /g/nanovna-users/message/603 There is taobaoFOCUS, an English language shop that resells stuff from taobao: /g/nanovna-users/topic/32513920 Hugen has suggested going through his friend on Alibaba. Note that the price drops to US$35 if you buy in quantity, an excellent choice for a club: /g/nanovna-users/message/658 I'm more worried about wasting weeks banging my head against vague bugs in a bad Asian clone than I am about risking $50 on a non amazon/ebay seller. I wonder if perhaps Banggood or Amazon could be talked into stocking nanovna's guaranteed to be from taobao? Many thanks to Hugen and edy555 for all the effort they have put into creating this fantastic device. At this price point, I'd be happy enough if all it could do was a max of 30mhz. I just bought one from Hugen's Alibaba friend(s), using paypal direct to the sellers job email.
Should be here in about two weeks. We'll see, 60usd is a low enough stake for a gamble. That friend seems to be a well established wholesale operator which is probably why lots of 50 are so much cheaper than singles. |
Good to hear that you are happy with what you got from Banggood.
Would be interesting to know if the internal construction agrees with these photos: On switch on it displays : nanoVNA---- GEN111.tabao.com .That may not mean much. I suspect all of the clone makers are just burning Hugen's binaries. I've heard the jog switch is fragile, but that would be easy to replace with most any momentary SPDT toggle switch, or perhaps two SPST push-buttons. If you need durability then maybe set the whole thing in a box, give it a larger top plate fabbed from FR4, place the SMA's hard against one end of the box, could use an extension on the USB connector. Or just buy 10 of the nanoVNA's off of Alibaba, go for redundancy instead. From /g/nanovna-users/message/367 I am trying to improve nanovna to provide better performance, try to make a more reliable shellAny thoughts from the group on how best to defeat the next round of clones? Perhaps the existing code remains open source on a small ARM uC, but a second uC with firmware enhancements gets locked down? Jerry, KE7ER On Sat, Aug 17, 2019 at 11:51 PM, Jan Boutsen wrote:

I just received mine from this ebay seller:
The product arrived in 3 or 4 days and is the shielded unit. Works as advertised. I thought to take a chance as the long wait for a China shipment was, for once, not desired. Just FYI. I purchased one from this seller last month, $49 shipped! He's sold about 15 just this month so I dont think he will go too low on his best offer now since everyone wants one lol So far I am happy with it except my eyes wish the screen was 4 times bigger lol. I roughly get about 2.5hrs before needing recharge and only done this twice. The 2 jumpers that came with it are ok but go bonkers above 700MHz. The 50 Ohm load looked ok when I measured it with my Agilent 8712ES. I am a little confused with the "open" OSL that came with it, it's missing the center pin which means that there is no L or C to take into account for an "open" connector. For stuff in the HF range probably has no effect but I would think it would start having effects VHF and above? I WISH the unit would power up from the point that it was when it was powered off. It also resets itself whenever you pull out the USB connector and it switches to it's internal battery, not sure if this "normal" or not.? As time and health permit I will run some real world test with this little guy and post my results.

Item ID: 233265098213 Seller ID: sqcase because it was a UK source (Birmingham) but as it had no shield (and was described as having such) I sent it right back. Waiting for my eBay refund. Hi all,
Seems I've ordered the same item (due next week), but there was no mention of shielding in the description when I ordered it! For testing homebrew antennas I'm not concerned; Considering some comparisons with my club's MFJ and Rigexpert analysers further down the line.
