Re: nanoVNA Partner

Hi Maurizio,
Yes, what is displayed is the value of X when Y is at maximum and it is the total delay and needs to be divided by 2. With regards to segmented sweep to increase the number of points, I will try to implement that in the software. Kind regards, neb |
Re: Calibration Algorithm
#calibration
Hi Daniel;
See Post #8459 - #88 : the G formula - our research work has been completed. I think you will find the formula given there both relevant and efficient. It yields the corrected reflection coefficient result in one pass by embedding the calibration and measurement data into a single formula. Your application will also serve as an excellent beta test for the authors GIN&PEZ@arg who I am certain would very much welcome your comments. This was posted today, so I have not yet personally evaluated the algorithm in this final form. I have independently verified a previous version, and find the integrity of their work to be sound and thorough. I¡¯m confident that I will find the same to be true here also. They also provided the ¡°proof¡± for this in an earlier post #8013. -- 73 Gary, N3GO |

Hi neb , many thanks for the nanoVNA Partner program , very nice. Why not implement the multiple scan ( segmented sweep) , to increase number of points ? One little mistake or undestand : measuring a cable RG58 C/U VF 0.66 on chart forma TDR , a cable length is ok ( 2.07 m ) , but the delay indicated I suppose need to be divided bye 2. #88 : the G formula - our research work has been completed
Hello, Allow us, please, to present the complete G formula - in our sow and facupov, of course - at: in terms of its measurement g, as well as of S, L, O loads given by their honest manufacturers as (Nominal Value, Uncertainty) couples, and their measurements s, l, o respectively - all complex. By the way, also allow us, please, to announce -with much pleasure, indeed- that our related research work in this very subject - that is on the assumption that the VNA measurement g caused by a connected to VNA load G can be considered as obeying the equations of an irreversible, non-reciprocal, two-port - a virtual-real one consisting of a virtual measurement port and a real load port - along of course with their errors caused by the inaccuracies of these measurements and the uncertainties of these loads - has been substantially completed, since in our Small Objective World sow we can not see anymore any further existing omissions in this picture facupov From A Common User's Point Of View. Sincerely, gin&pez@arg :88# |

Re: Thermal effect?
Yeah, the original Nano (and mini/pocket VNA, plus most old HP gear) are like that. It's possible to remove the drift (and I mean not having to re-calibrate after warmup) with an internal correction switch (basically a switch that shorts port 1 to ground) which I've added in my design; hopefully others will follow.
|
Re: Thermal effect?
The difference is, that after warmup one gets repeatable results. When I calibrated the cold VNA and started to measure, maybe the very first results showed true numbers, but very soon results drifted (see the figure to my initial posting). I feel much better when repeated measurement show the same number. Otherwise there is always a bad taste...

Look in the source code of nanoVNA-saver on github
Or if you only require perfect calibration standards use this: plusJ=complex(0,1); minJ=complex(0,-1); one=complex(1,0); two=complex(2,0); gm1 = S; #Measured Short gm2 = O; #Measured Open gm3 = L; #Measured Load s21m = T; #Measured Through g1=complex(-1,0) g2=complex(1,0); g3=complex(0,0); denominator = g1.*(g2 .- g3).*gm1; denominator = denominator .+ g2.*g3.*gm2 .- g2.*g3.*gm3 .- (g2.*gm2 .- g3.*gm3).*g1; e00 = - ((g2.*gm3 .- g3.*gm3).*g1.*gm2 .- (g2.*g3.*gm2 .- g2.*g3.*gm3 .- (g3.*gm2 .- g2.*gm3).*g1).*gm1) ./ denominator; e11 = ((g2.-g3).*gm1.-g1.*(gm2.-gm3).+g3.*gm2.-g2.*gm3) ./ denominator; deltaE = - ((g1.*(gm2.-gm3).-g2.*gm2.+g3.*gm3).*gm1.+(g2.*gm3.-g3.*gm3).*gm2) ./ denominator; e10e32 = s21m .* (one - (e11.*e11)); ed = e00; es = e11; et = deltaE; th = e10e32; -- NanoVNA Wiki: /g/nanovna-users/wiki/home NanoVNA Files: /g/nanovna-users/files Erik, PD0EK |
