Hello - thanks for the helpful discussion (the part of this thread that discusses new member introductory assistance and navigation)
Per Andy's note above/below, I have located the member notices in settings (along with about a dozen other canned messages that can be set up.) I stand ready to update it.
As my work on this list focuses on list administration and keeping things on-topic (computing history discussion - please wrap it up now), I think it would be very helpful to include a beginner's guide to the group's resources, however, I do not believe I'd be the best person to author this. I'd be grateful for submission(s) to this end, and will configure the welcome message accordingly and update it as the group's preferences for this evolve.

[email protected] (which will reach both Daves) - after review, I/we will update the welcome message accordingly.
