You ought to read this….K0IR’s narrative of the trip, with much of it as I predicted regarding an old ship being reconditioned and repurposed overseas.? The U.S. has a distinct advantage with the USCG and active inspection/oversight of our shipping.? Not so in Chile.? We still don’t know who was in charge of ship selection and if those people had any background in marine engineering.

The belief that a 2 hour weather window is sufficient for shipboard launch and recovery of helos, including trips ashore of materials not already palleted?

“Most were sufficiently physically fit and came fully informed of the risks”.? Who determined physical fitness?? Was it tested/demonstrated?? Sorry, but being an experienced DX operator shouldn’t have been a prime reason for selection.? Anyone over 50 should have been told “Thanks, but no thanks”.?
