Neat groups.io options
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýERSians, I want to thank everybody for moving over to groups.io. I think you will find it more flexible and cleaner than where we were before.
I wanted to take a minute to point out some cool features. 1. If there is a topic flying back and forth that you have no interest in, you can go to the very bottom of the email and click on "mute this topic". Badda bing badda boom, no more email on that subject. 2. I encourage everybody to log into groups.io and edit your group profile so your From: in the email has your name and callsign.?
You can then edit your display name-
Pretty cool!

Need Crimper
I need to crimp four SB350 PowerPoles onto 2/0 gauge wire (about like a battery cable.)? Anybody have a crimper I could borrow, or know of one somewhere that I could use at minimal cost?? I've tried welding shops, an electrician, NTB, Batteries+Bulbs, and my auto mechanic (they might need to crimp a terminal on a replacement battery cable.)? My next call will be to the pickup accessories place on University in Denton -- they install winches on trucks & Jeeps and might have the need to crimp connectors onto fat wires.? The cheapest one I've found online is $250, and that's a lot for just 4 crimps!
I could solder them, but I don't like soldered connections where there's a possibility of high vibration and/or temperature, and these connections are for the power cable to my vehicle's winch (it's on a carrier, and can be put in the front or rear hitch receiver.)? I'm not crazy about using a hammer, either, since the PowerPoles have to be relatively round to fit in the shells. Thanks and 73, John DE K5JY |

Re: New Subscriber To [email protected]
The linksys routers dont do AREDN. They dont have enough RAM. Ubiquity is the player in that space.

bb-mesh uses the linksys stuff, but bear in mind the linksys is just cheapo plastic box junk that does not like extreme hot or extreme cold. On 03/20/2018 01:45 PM, John Stradal wrote:

I've got a couple old Linksys WRT54 routers squirreled away, so who knows maybe I'll experiment with some AREDN stuff some day... On Mar 20, 2018, at 13:09, Jay Urish <jay@...> wrote: |

I really like the ham-voip / doug crompton image. It runs really well and has a n00b menu system to make management easier. It's too darn easy to start an AREDN presence. Just put up a rocket sector or a bullet with an omni. The hardware can be cheaper than a TNC.. On 03/20/2018 11:30 AM, John Stradal wrote:

I have every intent to convert my existing EchoLink hardware over to Allstar, but free time to play with radio stuff has been limited. It's on my list of projects, but it may be a while. Since I can barely spell Linux, I may hit you up when the time comes. There's no AREDN activity in my area, and I suspect there wouldn't be a lot of interest. A few of us are playing around with packet, but that's about it. John On Mar 20, 2018, at 10:22, Jay Urish <jay@...> wrote: |
