These trails are crazy! Enjoy the holidays! Appreciate all work you, Marnie, John and Keith have done. Merry Christmas&Happy New Year.? We¡¯re here through the holidays so I plan to keep cranking away on north end. Hoping to get short loop completely open (even
if it¡¯s only for snowshoeing). Don¡¯t know if long loop is possible this year unless we can put together a small army!! I¡¯ll put out another update in a few days. Capser sounds brutal!....you the animal...get out the Irish Whiskey and relax! Ol Haus
You¡¯re an animal.? Took snowmobile onto Casper Trail today. Two hours of 20¡¯, saw-tug-toss, 20¡¯, repeat. Some big trees down as well. Whew. Glad to hear you are taking tomorrow off, but we will be gone until the 29th. Colder in January - Let¡¯s
hit it with snomachines then?
Enjoy the week,
K
?
Ken,
Just back from north end. Ann went in with me today....pushed well beyond the ¡®monster buck crossing sign¡¯ but still short of Buffalo Lodge. Probably broke another few hundred yards of trail. Rough going ?in deep snow....dozens of whippets across trail
that we cleared. Stopped at a point with a significant deadfall that will need to be chainsawed. May take tomorrow off but then keep snowshoeing beyond this deadfall. Lots of low lying slushy spots...think you could push through this far with snowmobile but
maybe wait until it all freezes up. Getting trail well packed from all the snowshoeing.
Ol Haus
Greg,
Going to be busy near town today, so won¡¯t make it to the north end.? Planning to take the chainsaw to the Casper Trail this afternoon, then do some trail grooming on Backyard.
FYI,
Ken

Think flip flops would be too strong a move tomorrow?

tomorrow you'll be able to snowshoe in your t-shirts
Yeah, that one tree over the trail by engine block is a monster! If Marnie/John got the rest of that around there, that¡¯s an achievement!! Mess in there.
On the snowmobile, you may want to look for yourself. Reasonably good chance to bang through first mile but breaking trail after that and unknown conditions. I don¡¯t want to be the one that said go in there?. If you want to try the first mile, I could
come along on snowshoes and help dig you out if you get stuck. Could do this tomorrow or whenever. In any event, I¡¯ll plan to snowshoe again tomorrow....push a little deeper to Buffalo Lodge and maybe try to pack down wet spots with snow. Whatever we do, generally
available next 5-6 days. Need to get some gas for my sled...it¡¯s running a little rough so a little concerned getting it to deep in woods right now...at least on my own...Ol Haus
Greg,
Nice work and report about what I thought. Marnie and John Scully went in the other way today past Engine Block toward big swamp cutting and clearing as they went. A big tree down they couldn¡¯t clear. Also very wet in spots. My experience so far with the
Backyard Trail is if I throw snow over the wet spots and pack them right away they freeze up pretty fast, ?but that was with colder weather than what we have this week.
Do let me know when you are headed in and I¡¯ll try to join you.? I might need to groom here as well later tomorrow so have to give that some thought.? Sounds like you don¡¯t think snowmobiles are a good idea out there yet??
Cheers,
K
? Ken,
Back from North End today. Pushed in farther both directions on short loop beyond what had been done previously. Broke a little additional trail both directions. Snowshoed now about 1.5 of the 3.5 mile short loop. We¡¯ll need to be breaking trail for rest...nobody¡¯s
been in there yet. Major, serious deadfalls about a quarter mile from end of short loop. Impassable right now. Might be able to sled in for a mile from start of short loop but that¡¯s it. That piece of trail is clear but some questionable low lying wet areas.
Unbroken snow beyond that(next couple miles) and unknown deadfall and low lying water. Don¡¯t think it¡¯s worth chainsawing until whole loop assessed. Might want to sled in the first mile but not even sure about that until it gets colder (trail clear but wet
low lying areas).?
I¡¯m going to snowshoe tomorrow for about 1.5/2 hours from Burroughs and keep pushing...maybe try to break a little bit more trail. Probably go in mid morning...if interested we can coordinate time.?
That¡¯s all for now...need to crack a beer and medicate...Ol Haus
What time tomorrow (Sunday)?? I could bring chain saws. Think we can run the sleds around that loop?
? Ken,
Thx. Will let you know on Monday. Plan to tromp around up there today/tomorrow...let u know what things look like and go from there. Ol Haus?
Haus,
I could help on Monday but then gone for five days. Back the 29th thru 1/6.? Let me know when you want help/company out there!
Ken
? I¡¯m on it....I¡¯ll keep you posted! Got away to go to catch up with you though! Hope to have snowshoed whole short loop trail over next couple days. After that, I¡¯ll try to go in with chainsaw(assume I¡¯ll need it somewhere!)....one mile clear
but 2.5 left on the short loop to look at. Ol Haus

way to reconnoiter there Ol' Haus...wish it was gonna colder so your work is sure to freeze up (or down I guess). Hope you can get some help and have the whole trail surveyed and packed.
Ol Haus reporting in?....just back to Island. Snowshoed north End trail today....went about 2 miles (mile in/mile out) from Burroughs trailhead towards Buffalo Lodge. Someone else was in a few days back and went beyond me...couple inches fresh
snow in the old tracks. Pulled up and cleared numerous little whippet trees. Saw nothing requiring a chainsaw in that stretch. Wet spots but semi frozen...nothing more than an inch or two deep water. Few more days of snowshoe and maybe we can get the sleds
in there.?
Plan to try and get in there most days over the next week. If anyone wants to join in, let me know. Focused on the short loop right now. Nice back in there but a workout!

Wonderful skiing....Thanks to all of you who made this trail possible, I know you did a ton of work.? Skied there today and was joined by the Island dog, Rusty or Dave
or whatever he likes to be called.? He is very happy using the trail, it is part of his route.? I saw the single dog tracks before trail was groomed and I was on snowshoes.? He likes to ski with you and always keeps his personal distance. Thank you again.?
