Mac mini M4 Hub and Stand!

For those of you who purchased the almost irresistible M4 Macintosh mini, you might find this hub/stand to be the perfect thing to go with it.

The hub/stand fits under your mini, and it provides the missing USB-A ports that you will likely need to attach legacy printers and scanners. Plus it allows you to add an internal NVME SSD (including up to a wildly fast 40Gbps NVME), perfect for those who purchased the base-spec Mac mini!

The iFixIt Mini breakdown makes it clear that the Wifi antenna is in the *base* of the Mini.

Sitting that base on, or surrounding it by, something metallic may impair Wifi connectivity – this has already been noted with the Satechi Stand and Hub.

Looks like a nice product and a good solution to my M4 with two hubs dangling off to sides, taking up valuable space.?
I noticed that on Amazon there are several copies of the RayCue such as:
?
Reviews for any of them haven't been spectacular but there are also very few reviews.?
Delivery time for the Raycue is 1-2 weeks either through Amazon or direct. Delivery is shorter for the others.?
?
Clever design however and sure is a clean looking setup.?
Thanks for the link.?

It’s easily possible that they are all made by the same factory in China.

However, the RayCue is unique, as far as I can see, in offering a model that has 40Gbps NVME SSD.

Looks like a knock off of this product from OWC, a brand with a strong reputation for quality. They've made versions of this for many years and they recently introduced a new Thunderbolt 4 version which I’ve purchased but not yet installed and tested. It also serves as a drive enclosure.

I would also note that I am suspicious of the interlocking inset with the cooling blades. The blades seem like an unnecessary obstruction to airflow. The Mini and Studio vent from the bottom are designed to sit on a flat surface, unobstructed. Recessing this exhaust behind these blades adds obstruction. The fact that they look like cooling blades is very misleading as they will have the opposite effect, capturing heat and sending it up.?

That said, heat is not a big problem with these Macs and this probably makes no real world difference. Still it makes me suspicious of the overall design quality.

I just watched a rather good review of this hub & stand by Craig Neidle:

Basically,
* The drive comes with a single, flathead screwdriver; however, the plate that covers the SSD slot has Phillips screws. ?If you use the supplied screwdriver on those screws, then you can strip them. ?Instead use a Phillips screw driver and there should be no problem.

* He tried several different SSD brands:
- WD SN770 NVMe: He couldn't get this one to work, even though it works well elsewhere. ?He could not determine why. ?One commenter said that he also couldn't get a WD SSD ?to work in a different hub & stand. ?
- A Samsung EVO Plus and an Orico 07000 M.2 both worked very well. ?Others may work just as well.

* He tested for the aforementioned (by others in this thread) wi-fi slowdown problem, and found it to be minimal in his situation.?
