Cost of move to groups.io? #MacSupportCentral

Another group that I subscribe to is moving to . The owner tells us that he has to use a Premium membership at a first year fee of $220 to make the move; he can go back to free thereafter. ?Has this happened here, if so are donations being sought?

Wow! I see that it has just gone up from $110/yr to $220/yr.

I'm guessing that so many folks have migrated recently from Yahoo Groups that groups.io decided that this was a good time to increase pricing.

It's FREE if are willing to simply *invite* all of the old members to join the new list. But you need the $220 account if you want to migrate the old subscriber database.

That is still cheaper than L-Soft. groups.io figures out to about $20/ month. If everyone would agree to a buck a month that would more than cover the cost. Just do a annual $12 fee to each user. Most of us should be able to afford that.

Yes, we have gone with the free option. Some groups have paid the (previous) $110 for a wholesale transfer. Others still have used a (Windows-only) app to transfer their Yahoo web content.

When I first learned about Yahoo’s Group closings, I was devastated to think I’d be without the MSC. I’ve learned more through this group than anywhere else, and am deeply appreciative for the way Apple Lovers are assisted.

As soon as the information about io groups was posted, I hopped onto the group. Others who appreciate the group will do the same. Can we help by “advertising” on our IG, FB or blogs? Or would that be something the list moderators would prefer we not do?

Thankful for you,
Donna

Yahoo Groups is not actually closing; they are about to remove all web content while allowing?the "mail list" function to continue (but for how long?).?

We have bulk-invited all members of the Yahoo group to join us here at . Many haven't been active for ages but this helps in finding who's still?interested. It's a great opportunity to lose dead wood.

There's no harm in spreading the word, as long as they know how we work. ;)

This topic has been hashed over and over for the past couple of weeks. I'm sorry my answer of "No" was so curt. It's been asked and answered a few times. Anyway, if you would like to be a moderator and point out every time someone doesn't add a quote in their reply we could add you as one of our moderators. If you're interested, email [email protected] and make that a request.

I am fully sympathetic to the idea that investing time and effort into collecting fees may not be worth it. And I understand that moderation is hard and time consuming. Thank ?you.

To everyone else: If you spend time here, take a moment to note who the moderators are (it’s on the home page) and keep this in mind when you see the message comes from them. My son was once a professional moderator. He actually got paid to moderate and these were forums that he loved, but only a sense of duty kept him doing it.?

Some tips for following lists that will make your time (and the moderators) easier:

Set a filter for list mail that automatically moves every piece into it’s own folder. Set this list mail folder to view by thread.

For Apple Mail, go to Mail>Preferences>Rules and add a new rule. I recommend: If Subject contains "[macsupportcentral]” AND To contains “[email protected]” then “Move Message” and then “Stop Evaluating Rules”

Cheers,

Note that when moderators post important messages about the group as a whole, they should have [Admin] or [ADMIN] at the start of the subject line.?

Or add the hashtag #ADMIN anywhere in the subject line.

Yes, as we now have those.
