I am getting almost 10 unwanted texts a day asking for contributions to various political causes. I have been checking ‘delete and report junk’. My daughter says I should first reply STOP before the delete and report junk. Which if any of these methods will stop this infernal text messages? Regards, Joan

Nothing will stop unsolicited texts, emails or calls.?
I recommend not texting back stop, not unsubscribing to emails from sources you have never done business with, or answering calls from unknown calls. (Unless you are expecting a call from an organization like state agencies or say a doctors office that might not use a known number, or a return call from a business.)
By replying in any way, you are confirming the have a live way to contact you. Blocking email, doesn’t work because they change their e-ddress as fast as they change their underwear. Unsolicited callers spoof the number called from just as fast.
Unsolicited contact is usually from unethical jerks, that don’t care what you say.?

In Canada you can forward them to the Canadian fraud centre. Not sure what it achieves but it’s satisfying. Forward smishing texts to 7726

Last year I read several articles that said to reply with STOP to political text messages. ?Doing that greatly reduced the number of political text messages that I was receiving. ?Don't do that for other types of SPAM.
In the USA you can forward actual SPAM to the FTC:
I found blocking SPAM numbers to be an exercise in futility due to phone number spoofing.

The begging for contributions from political groups is probably legal, but still difficult to stop. The organizational infrastructure behind the “PACs” is intertwined, and that’s often revealed in the messages or emails themselves, with text stating something like that if you respond you’re agreeing to receive messages from all the associated entities as well.
What angers ME most about many of these appeals is their stupidity. They ask me to “sign petitions” (the text of which are NEVER included in the request), when what they’re really after is MONEY. They make “sky is falling” claims when there still are (admittedly weak) supports hold up the sky. They couch their appeals in desperate begging “before midnight tonight” with promises to do the literally impossible if I comply with their request. Silliest of all, they often claim that they need such responses only from some small prime integer number of contributors in order to change the world.
Worst of all, no one READS responses other than to tally those that authorize tolling your bank account.

You can report them all you want, but does anything ever happen? Short answer, no.?
So why waste your time, be done with them and move on. I’ve tried all the possible courses of action, and ignoring them has given the best results in lowering the numbers and frustration.?
Years ago I had some time on my hands, so I went after all the junk mail I was receiving. I researched the sources and the contact information of the marketing companies. I made a nuisance of myself. It got to the point, that I would make a polite call to the marketing company, give them my name, and they would, without any run around add my contact info to the do not contact list for the new companies list. I even got the Penny Saver coupon mailer stopped. And to this day, 20+ years later, I get almost no junk mail. Of course, I miss out on all those raffles and drawings, because I don’t enter them, but I figure I won by getting almost no junk mail. I was a slow process, took a year or two, but I won.
Something has changed in Apple’s email filters. I used to get less than a hundred emails that would make it thru far enough that they would end up in the Junk folder. For the last two months, I have gotten about a total of 6.?
As to the spam calls, the calling numbers are spoofed, and they often use a random number generator for calling. Listen to their pitch, there is nothing specific to you. It is the old throw it against the wall and see what sticks. A vast majority of people order online, so they say your package has an incorrect address (so how did they USPS figure out your phone number?), or their is a problem with your Amazon account. Between the two ploys, that covered about 60% or better of people. But they did not mention anything specific about you or your order.?
I just spent more time typing this than I have with spam in the last 3 months.

Even when the US FTC was fully staffed and funded, they took no action unless they got tens of thousands of complaints, and even then they were ineffective. And Fatman and Robber in office, they are neither fully staffed or funded. Which programs do you thing got cut first?
The only emails I have reported, are the ones that threatened harm to the recipient. Oh, by the way, they may, doubtfully take action of email spam, but recently, they only take note of text spam, but take no action.?
And I bet even in Canada and the UK, the results are the same. It is like a dog chasing its own tail. Too late, or don’t have jurisdiction.?
You can thank spam calls on the invention of VOIP calls. It allows a computer to make the calls, and they only need humans to close the deal. Text spam is only a few years old.
