I have recently upgraded to a newer Mac and newer OS. I am trying to learn about one of the features, and I can not remember the keyword. New topic to me, combined with senior moments. One one of the lists that I am on, it was covered in the last several weeks, but for the life of me I can not remember the term.
What I want to research and read up on is where Catalina and newer OS move documents, in this case a Numbers doc, from the Mac or iPhone to my iCloud account. I like that it syncs docs between the three locations, but I would rather that the stay on the devices. Where I need to use these docs, are often slow or have no internet access. I would like the search term and any input you care to offer on the subject. Brent |

Thanks, Jim R, that is involved and was enough to find the thread I was looking for on another list. Reading that and researching that will keep me busy for a bit.

Otto, that URL is the features of Catalina and a link to download it. Got both. I’m looking for a how-to. Thanks, folks. Brent On Dec 17, 2023, at 3:48 PM, Pat Taylor via groups.io <pat412@...> wrote:

开云体育Brent,Yes, I assumed that the list of features would trigger some memory of what you’re trying to find. I’m not quite clear what you’re after. If it helps, I was initially confused by the distinction between iCloud and iCloud Drive. Most of my stuff syncs to my iPhone using iCloud but I need iCloud Drive for Numbers. The iCloud stuff syncs automatically but for Numbers I need to 'Save As' to get sheets I've worked on on the Mac onto my iPhone. I’m still on 10.14. This might have changed in 10.15. Otto

开云体育Sorry, the features did not trigger a memory. Aw, I see Apple’s infamous ambiguity has struck again, iCloud vs iCloud Drive. If you figure out the difference, please post it.Chalk up another for you to not upgrade to Catalina, just yet. And I will back up my former praise of the newer Numbers, until I get this issue resolved. There is no Save As for Numbers v 11.1, which is needed for Catalina. I will call Apple Support later to see if there is a works around. What to you say in Britain to slow a horse down, is is also whoa? Turns our the answer is similar to the solution for Sonoma. Instead of Save as, use Move To, either to Documents or Desktop. I will have to play with it, as to how long it sticks, and if there is a way to sync the Mac with my iPhone like I used to do with Excel and DocsToGo. Thank you for the clue. This is a known issue in Sonoma, but this Mac will never get there. That was the thread I was thinking of, from another list. It involves a new Sys Pref / Setting in Sonoma, Desktop & Dock. Right now, the Mac mini won’t boot if both RAM sockets have a stick in them. I just received larger RAM, and installed them. I called Tech Sup from the retailer and we explored it. Turns out Bank 0 is bad and was also the cause of the extreme slowness of the Mac. It is faster with a singe 4 GB stick of RAM, than two sticks of 2 GB. I have a RMA to send it back for repairs under warranty,? One more issue of Catalina’s need for 64-bit apps, There is a gap on Shirt-Pockets web page. The legacy versions for 10.10 - 10.15 seem to be missing? So I am stuck, because I cannot back up all the work I just spent setting it up, before sending it back. 开云体育Thank you.?I had already written him…. ?and his dog. His reply was that v3.8 works, the current version. I’m currently about 1/3 of the way done making a clone.? macOS 10.12 to 10.15 are omitted on the SD! page, and I have had problem installing too new versions of 3 apps. I wanted to avoid doing that yet again.? On my iPhone Xr On Dec 18, 2023, at 17:05, Vince Winterling <vincentwinterling@...> wrote:

Easy one first: at some point Save As was removed from the default File menu. I can’t remember if was with 10.14 or before. The solution is simple though: ? changes Duplicate to Save As in that menu.

iCloud automatically syncs: Contacts Calendars Reminders Safari Notes Siri Keychain Find My News Stocks Home and also Photos but that would require much more than the default 5 GB in my case. iCloud Drive allows syncing of: Desktop & Documents folders Automator Preview Quicktime Player Script Editor TextEdit GarageBand Books iMovie Keynote Numbers Pages Maps System Preferences That’s in 10.14. It might be different in later OSes. Indeed, 32-bit apps will not run in 10.15. That’s what’s stopped me going there so far. Otto On 18 Dec 2023, at 23:46, Brent via groups.io <whodo678@...> wrote: |
