It is likely that she was not purchasing it from the Apple App Store, and so It is asking for your administrator's password to allow the download and install.

I belong to 4 Apple related groups at io. On two, the owners apparently decided not to offer Directory as an option. They have 418 and 227 members. Two have chosen the option of a Directory, and they have 141 and 282 members.? Only you are pushing for everyone to change their settings, and only 18 of 282 members of this list have chosen to share. I have no idea how many have or have not opted in on the other group, but I bet it is low, since no one has brought it up. The platform owner by default, decided that individuals have to opt in. And so far, I see not advantage to opting in.? One disadvantage is I think, why make it one iota easier for a spammer? And once capture by a spammer, there is no way to retract it. I think you are out voted. Brent On Nov 3, 2019, at 8:53 AM, timmeidroth wrote:

Funny, my father was a professional photographer, and I now have lots of various forms of magnifiers, with and without stands, arms and lights.

Ah, the difference between American and British. But Karen did not make it clear until the end. As I read it, I was thinking she meant some sort of repeat function, not magnification. On Nov 3, 2019, at 7:21 AM, Otto Nikolaus via Groups.Io wrote:

So apparently the ability to see others in the directory, is a two way street. Funny, but I'm ok with it. Especially the only thing I see it does is allow you to send an email to an individual, and not the group. I can do that by getting their email from a posting. And you won't see this Brent, because I am not allowing it to be shared. And that is the default setting, so you won't see most members. Breht On Nov 3, 2019, at 7:17 AM, Jim Saklad via Groups.Io wrote:

I can not see any entries in Directory. It could be my older browser or who knows what. This is what I see: On Nov 3, 2019, at 7:12 AM, Otto Nikolaus via Groups.Io wrote:

Permissions
#Security
I have a 27” late 2015 iMac running High Sierra. (I just bought a 2019 MacBook Pro running Catalina FWIW)
Just the other day, my iMac told me I "didn’t have the necessary permission” to make changes with my HDD, and several other inconveniences. The HDD is the most important, of course. But I am the only person to use this computer, so I do not need this level of security. I read about problems with Preview, so I dragged Preview onto the desktop, and rebooted. I also took Preview out of Container (I forget the proper name, but I did it correctly), rebooted, and that didn’t help. I went through several pages of advise to help. The closest advise seem to lie within terminal. I like this idea because while this latest denial of permission happened just the other day, I have had trouble moving things to the trash, and several other things like that should not be a problem. (I also used Disk Utility from an external hard drive to run Disk Repair). So, I would like to have this latest problem resolved, along with the lesser permission problems. Also, I am experiencing the same problem with my MBP. I am NOT a guru. I treat Terminal with respect. I have used it in the past, and will again. I do not want to back up my iMac, as I am afraid i would duplicate this problem. I am sure I have omitted necessary information. So, just ask. Thanks, Doug |

Excuse me? That “long, wandering first post” was ALL ABOUT the MacBook Pro restarting, how I discovered it, what I tried to do on scene to sort it out, what more I did when I had more time, and how what seemed to make it stop (running Disk Utility) from the Recovery Partition, then again in Safe Mode) made me able to use the machine again, but that I was surprised to not see a report from Disk Utility saying it had repaired anything. I think this discussion has ended its fruitful lifespan. Jim Robertson |

Thanks again for all the suggestions.?
I took out the ATI Radeon HD4870 and took it apart for the first time in 11 years. While I clean out the Mac itself, I have never taken the GPU apart - never thought it would need that. Man, was it plugged up. The heat sink had no openings left for air. Cleaned it out and all is fine again. So the recommendation to clean it was right on - I just never took it to mean take the GPU apart. Thank you. Ihor |

A few thoughts: the “Keychain password” can be different from but usually is the same as your machine login password. And I don’t think it’s a term commonly used on Windows. I don’t purchase many things from the Apple App Store, but when I download things from there, I’m asked frequently for my Apple ID and password, but it’s conceivable that because of previously licensed Microsoft software on your wife’s Mac she may need to provide her Keychain Password. The Mac App Store is certainly not very transparent regarding how much it will cost (it is a subscription product and apparently she’ll be billed for the first year at the end of her one-month trial. I have Office 365. I’m trying to convert myself to Apple’s products (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), but I’m so accustomed to MS Office from its very origins that I’m typically using the MS apps. Howdy.
Rick, Keychain Access.app is an Apple application included with all Macs. It's located in Applications/Utilities. Keychain Access records all kinds of security things like passwords. You can reveal the passwords in Keychain Access. Launch Keychain Access, click the login item, then click Passwords. Find an item in the list and click it once. Then do a right-click for the contextual menu and pick Get Info. (Or do Command I, or, pick Get Info from the File menu.) You will find a Show password check box. Note that Keychain Access does not record all passwords. The application has to be programmed to know about Keychain Access. For example the Apple Safari browser records things in Keychain Access but the Firefox browser does not and has it's own system. You can even add bank accounts, etc. Keychain Access is only available to you as the Home User Account when you log in.
