From what I've read, the videos are not downloaded in a format directly usable by you. YouTube downloads the videos as EXO (video chunk) or BLOB (Binary Large Object) files, depending on your device.

I too noticed that latest Brave would no longer run under Mojave, but for some reason I got it to work while using a "Private Window" instead... Good as before. This is what version I have:
