I run DetectX automatically at every boot-up (and I turn my laptop off overnight most nights, so ¡°Boot-up¡± is usually every day).
I then close it, but if I install a new piece of software, DetectX brings up a requester asking if it should check again.
Since its check only takes a few seconds, I always say ¡°yes¡±.

I forgot to add:
One of the more irritating issues with the HP8500 was the requirement to use HP cartridgesalong with the fact that if you did buy a spare set, they could go "out of date" while sitting in reserve.

AIO Printer Recommendation

My HP8500 All In One printer needs replacement. Features I would like:
-Color
-Automatic paper feed for all modes
-Duplex printing/copying
-Fax
-Wi-Fi and hardwire connectivity
-Low/economic cost per-page (relative)

Recommendations/experiences would be welcome and helpful.

TIA

As an aside, I do have both a Cost-Co Membership and Amazon Prime.

Personally I find the UI for iWorks apps much less kludgy [no ribbon!] then MSO.

Over the past several years, I¡¯ve attempted to migrate from MS Office to Apple¡¯s suite, but back when I was doing scientific writing I found it impossible to create reference lists for scientific articles that would adapt to changing the location of referenced text to different places in my articles.

In 2015 and 2016 I marveled at the power of Excel via participation (as an end user) in the growth of an online multi-sheet Workbook that cataloged VW diesel owners¡¯ experiences with the company¡¯s buyback program. Literally thousands of VW diesel owners participated in that effort in the same fashion. The basic workbook was developed and published by one individual, and I never saw it crack under the strain of all those people reporting their own journeys to redemption. I cannot imagine Numbers accomplishing that task.

Then again, the spreadsheets I create myself typically are single-task projects designed to make certain I don¡¯t spend to much on my electronic gadgets, or other very modest goals, and my writing in word processors is dominated by quite simple letters.

Re: Permissions #Security

Dan, it repaired permissions there in Terminal. But, it didn¡¯t help with doing anything

Doug, here's a Terminal command to repair permissions.

This is from an article on High Sierra permissions but I think it's the
same in Catalina.

1. Open ¡°Terminal¡°.
2. Type the following command, then press ¡°Enter¡°:

sudo diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`

You will need to type your Home User Account password which will not
appear on the screen.

Tell us what happens.

Doug, do a Get Info on your boot drive icon.

Check the bottom section under Sharing & Permissions. Might need to

It should look like this Get Info window screen capture.

Does it?
