Re: Advice for new computer
开云体育Please read this entire message before changing any settings. The part that you don't want to see is the preview pane.??The preview pane is useful for seeing entire messages while quickly moving through the message list.??Alternatively, you can double click on messages to view them in a separate window. It looks to me like you are using standard layout with bottom preview.??If so, you should see both "Show Column Layout" unchecked and "Show Side Preview" in the View menu.??If the preview pane is taking up too much vertical real estate, one alternative would be to switch to side preview. (View -> Show Side Preview).??OTOH, if you want to entirely get rid of the preview pane, then read on. You can resize the message list and preview panes.??If you look closely, you will see a very fine line separating the two panes.??If you hover the cursor over that line, a different cursor will appear.??It has two vertical lines close together with a two headed vertical arrow in its middle.??On my Mac it's very sensitive, so you may need to try several times before you see it.??You can use that cursor to drag that line down (making the message list pane bigger) and up (making the preview pane bigger).??If you drag that cursor all the way to the bottom of the Mail window, then you make the preview pane go away. However, if you do so and later want to restore the preview pane then it may be very difficult to do so.??For that reason, it might be best to drag the cursor almost to the bottom, rather than all of the way. If you do move it all of the way to the bottom, then the following is how to restore it at a later date. Carefully move the mouse pointer along the bottom edge of the mail window. ?As you move the cursor it will change to a double ended arrow or a ?horizontal bar with a up facing arrow. ?When the horizontal bar+arrow appears, click and drag up. ?Your preview pane should reappear.??This can be very finicky.??Some folks find this impossible to do, and end up having to remove their mail preferences file to restore the preview pane.??Of course, deleting that file??also removes all other Mail configurations.??This is the reason I recommend not entirely closing the preview pane. The same thing works when using side preview, except that the cursor is a vertical bar with a left facing arrow and the drag is from the right side. 开云体育I continued to research the issue and stumbled across the correct search term.?There is no way to customize the sound for a group, but you can for the individuals in the group. Can you take a screenshot and in Preview add an arrow (or other indicator) pointing to the pane that you don't want to see?

How you fill your days during retirement
开云体育I wonder a LOT how it can be that I’m always behind (I won’t confess when I last backed up my laptop) now that I’m retired and supposedly free of demands on my time. But, two examples (only one Apple-related)

Re: Connectology in home entertainment
开云体育I also have syncing problems with my newer Sony TV. (1-2 years old) I have a Sony TV, 4K Apple TV, and a Samsung Soundbar that randomly loses the sound connection. It doesn’t happen with regular TV use (digital antenna channels), only happens when streaming via the Apple TV.? I’ve read countless Google & Reddit posts about this, so I/we are not the only one with this issue. What works for me sometimes, is to hold down the power button on the Sony TV remote until ?Cancel/Restart pops up, and I choose restart. If that doesn’t work, then I have to do what you did - disconnect everything and start fresh. This never happened with my 10 year old Sony, just the newer one. 开云体育Given that you didn't include a screenshot, I'm just taking a stab in the dark... Perhaps your wife's MacBook Air is an M1 or later model and Summarize Message Previews is turned on in Mail? Re: Advice for new computer
Bev,
?
I previously adjusted the screen resolution last summer before I had cataract surgery. ?I didn't bother again since then.
I made an adjustment this evening to a larger resolution.
I will try some of my programs in the next few days o see if that helps.
?
I Apple mail there is a window under the headers that I don't need since the headers show what I prefer and this window is redundant. ?I can't figure out how to remove that wasted space.
?
Thanks to all that have replied.

Thanks,

Re: Best way to stop unwanted texts
开云体育Even when the US FTC was fully staffed and funded, they took no action unless they got tens of thousands of complaints, and even then they were ineffective. And Fatman and Robber in office, they are neither fully staffed or funded. Which programs do you thing got cut first? The only emails I have reported, are the ones that threatened harm to the recipient. Oh, by the way, they may, doubtfully take action of email spam, but recently, they only take note of text spam, but take no action.? And I bet even in Canada and the UK, the results are the same. It is like a dog chasing its own tail. Too late, or don’t have jurisdiction.? You can thank spam calls on the invention of VOIP calls. It allows a computer to make the calls, and they only need humans to close the deal. Text spam is only a few years old. Brent ?

Re: Best way to stop unwanted texts
开云体育You can report them all you want, but does anything ever happen? Short answer, no.?So why waste your time, be done with them and move on. I’ve tried all the possible courses of action, and ignoring them has given the best results in lowering the numbers and frustration.? Years ago I had some time on my hands, so I went after all the junk mail I was receiving. I researched the sources and the contact information of the marketing companies. I made a nuisance of myself. It got to the point, that I would make a polite call to the marketing company, give them my name, and they would, without any run around add my contact info to the do not contact list for the new companies list. I even got the Penny Saver coupon mailer stopped. And to this day, 20+ years later, I get almost no junk mail. Of course, I miss out on all those raffles and drawings, because I don’t enter them, but I figure I won by getting almost no junk mail. I was a slow process, took a year or two, but I won. Something has changed in Apple’s email filters. I used to get less than a hundred emails that would make it thru far enough that they would end up in the Junk folder. For the last two months, I have gotten about a total of 6.? As to the spam calls, the calling numbers are spoofed, and they often use a random number generator for calling. Listen to their pitch, there is nothing specific to you. It is the old throw it against the wall and see what sticks. A vast majority of people order online, so they say your package has an incorrect address (so how did they USPS figure out your phone number?), or their is a problem with your Amazon account. Between the two ploys, that covered about 60% or better of people. But they did not mention anything specific about you or your order.? I just spent more time typing this than I have with spam in the last 3 months. Brent ?

Re: Best way to stop unwanted texts
开云体育
The begging for contributions from political groups is probably legal, but still difficult to stop. The organizational infrastructure behind the “PACs” is intertwined, and that’s often revealed in the messages or emails themselves, with text stating something like that if you respond you’re agreeing to receive messages from all the associated entities as well. What angers ME most about many of these appeals is their stupidity. They ask me to “sign petitions” (the text of which are NEVER included in the request), when what they’re really after is MONEY. They make “sky is falling” claims when there still are (admittedly weak) supports hold up the sky. They couch their appeals in desperate begging “before midnight tonight” with promises to do the literally impossible if I comply with their request. Silliest of all, they often claim that they need such responses only from some small prime integer number of contributors in order to change the world. Worst of all, no one READS responses other than to tally those that authorize tolling your bank account.
