Re: Ryoko Pro. thoughts
开云体育Sew Walker wrote:Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ryoko Pro that is a portable wifi The Ryoko device comes with a SIM card, like your cellphone, connects to the internet, and produces a Wifi hotspot your devices can use. 1. It’s a 4G cell device; its maximum Wifi speed is 150 Mbps. Any good 5G cellphone should get you faster internet. 2. The device costs $90. 3. It comes with a?Viaota SIM card. The minimum ongoing cost for that is $20 per month. Ryoko Pro is compatible with any SIM card. You can easily use it to share an internet connection using another SIM card of your choice though the pre-installed Viaota SIM card comes with added benefits which include the ability to monitor your data usage directly on the device’s screen and automatic ad-blocking. These features are exclusive to the Viaota SIM card and will not be available if you choose to use a third-party SIM. 4. Battery life is 8 hours. Most modern cell phones are longer. My brief search found no believable objective reviews. I, personally, wouldn’t trust it to be worth the expense.

Re: 2023 14" M3 MacBook Pro with partially freezing UI
开云体育I ran your test on my late 2012?Mac mini running 10.15.7, with 8 GB of Memory. I opened 3 tabs in Safar in this order, Apple, HP and kbzk. Of the three sites, Apple and HP decreased their memory usage, while kbzk slowly increased its usage ?within minutes, no matter if it was infront or not.Brave is not available for Catalina, so I tried the same for Firefox. Firefox does not breakout web site memory usage, and does not appear to increase the memory usage for just a few open tabs.? It appears that kbzk’s site is either poorly written or has been hacked, and Safari might have an unwanted feature.? Brent ?

I’ve done just that myself on my 2017 21.5” iMac running the version of Safari that’s designated for Ventura 13.6.7. I suspect a UI freeze will be less likely on that machine because it has 32 GB of RAM, but for at least the first several minutes of observation with the KBZK website open to its home page, RAM consumption it NOT increasing rapidly (sitting in the range of 300-350 MB). And now, a bit more than an hour later, that one site is now using a bit more than 500 MB of RAM according to Activity Monitor, but the rate of increase has been MUCH slower. Also, perhaps because the machine has so much more RAM, there’s no sign of any decrement in simple performance, such as windows updating, etc., but I’m not doing anything known to really exercise the processor.

Hi, Louise. Not sure whether I’ll have an answer, but some more information might help. For example, what kind of Mac (detailed information can be obtained either from knowing its basics and placing information about it from the third party “MacTracker” app, or from “Machine Profile” from your installed apps into another message to the group, along with information about what version of macOS is installed on your machine. However, the amounts of memory in use according to your screenshot are NOT really high unless it’s a relatively old machine. I’m occasionally having a possibly similar problem on an almost new Mac laptop, In my case, it looks as though an individual website is consuming an enormous amount of memory when Safari is the active browser. You can get more information about that by using a utility installed by the operating system, Activity Monitor. However, my attempts to solve my own problem have led me to realize that Activity Monitor does not track memory dedicated to a particular website. I’d also suggest you consider using a different Chromium-based browser. Google Chrome is widely regarded by people who know much more than I as weaponized by Google to acquire as much information about you as possible for its own monetary purposes. Depending on how old you computer is, you might look at other Chromium-based browsers that don’t have that scurrilous reputation.

Interestingly, Brave doesn’t display the Memory footprint of individual URLs. I tried several. The same is true of Chrome. Each of those browsers results in several iterations of [browsername].helper being displayed when “All Processes” is chosen from the “View” menu in Activity Monitor, but I’ve not been able to replicate what I see with Safari running. Again, I have NO idea what that means. Perhaps someone might be willing to see what happens in Safari if they open ?(actually <>) on their own Apple Silicon or Intel Macs.

Yep! Looks like you figured out which web site. Now switch Activity Monitor from RAM to CPU Activity and look for which processes are using those CPU cycles.

Easiest fix, don’t visit that web site, but I understand why you might not want to do that. Maybe someone can tell you how to diagnose what that web site is doing. Dennis, your thoughts? Just a WAG, wild a?? guess. I have never heard of this kind of problem, so is something criminal going on by someone that might have hacked the site? problems with yesterday's update
I am pulling out my hair ,and have been working for hours to fix some of the problems caused by the latest up date to Sequoia , First of all my desktop became cluttered with all kinds of files that were very old and never had been on my new computer. I lost my upper tool bars. I am unable to get into my computer after it wakes from sleep without putting in my password..and yes I have followed the directions from Apple as to how to circumvent using a password when the computer is waking from? sleep.? I guess that I am now going to be stuck doing something I have not had to do ever before..and yes I have rebooted several times, But? I have never had so many problems with any upgrade on any of my Macs before. Just think up until yesterday, my only gripe was not be able to use a keyboard short cut to put my? new Imac to sleep.
anyone else having any problems after? doing the upgrade? Jeannie |
Re: 2023 14" M3 MacBook Pro with partially freezing UI
开云体育I would tend to think that you have too many app open and too many tbs open in your browsers.?I’m going to share a similar experience on a more limited ?platform, my iPhone XR with 8GB of ram. I play and have open 2 video games 24/7. Both need an internet connection. One is a particular hog. After playing for almost 3 years, I have a lot going on in this world which uses perspective view to give a simulation of 3D. Many actions cause it to freeze up, even with only 3 open apps. Lost Survivors, the offending video game, Merge Mansion, the other video game, in the background and less demanding when active, and DataMan which monitors my internet connection, thru either cellular data, which is very limited, or thru WiFi, which is unlimited. All other apps are shut off when I play the one game. The other doesn’t care.? Heck, a month or two back, didn’t your wife have a problem and you found she had dozens of tabs open in her browser. You closed a bunch and the problem went away.? ? I doubt the TV station is going to change their site just for you, but do let them know. Maybe you should use less of their features or close their tab once in a while. If you are following a news feed, try using a stand alone app, rather than a browser. Or change browsers or remove any related extension. Generally, web sites don’t push data, you have to pull, and/or allow them to push.? Bev, thank you for your suggestions. I’m beginning to think that Mail is not the culprit beyond the fact that I spend a lot of time in it, and so it’s more likely to be in the foreground at the moment the UI can no longer tolerate the consumption of RAM by that one website in Safari. I’ve taken a series of screenshots this morning with Safari and Activity Monitor (and eventually Preview, which I use to examine the screenshots) open. Just by chance, I had a few other pages open in Safari, and although their RAM usage also increases over time, it’s nowhere near to the extent that happens as compared with the single page open from the local TV station’s site. I’m not in the habit of closing apps or windows in my browser, and perhaps that’s all I need to do to prevent this from happening. I’m in conversation with tech folks at the local TV station, but I don’t know yet whether the people I’m sharing information with are able or willing to tell me whether their web interface is somehow not releasing RAM allocated to it. The almost complete freeing of my UI might be more attributable to Safari than to any individual website, but other sites pale in comparison to this TV station’s use of RAM, at least as reported by Activity Monitor..
