Re: Junk mail filter

Roger,

I used to have that same massive incoming spam problem with a (paid) Yahoo mail account.?

Instead of bringing that Yahoo! mail account directly into Apple Mail on my Mac, I set up a forward in GMail Settings. By doing this, the incoming Yahoo mail would be filtered by GM’s very good filters. The Yahoo account could also be set up in GM to ?‘Reply to’ from either my Yahoo! mail address on the incoming mail, or instead via my GM account address. ?

After about a month, I no longer received much spam mail. After about 2 years, I received no spam mail from that account. ?Worked well.

Over time, it helped me migrate any important incoming Yahoo mail over to the GM account.

Hope this helps.

Funny bc I’ve looked for that for awhile, ever since seeing messages in another group about it, and it hasn’t shown up on my Mac.

Yes, it takes time to learn. I didn’t realize it had to learn for each account. But then again, a new account wouldn’t get much email at all. This is an old established accounts already receiving lots of spam.?

I've been using Apple mail for my Gmail account for years. ?The junk filter works very well; occasionally something slips through but not often.?

Several days ago, I decided to bring my old, seldom-used, Comcast mail account over to Apple mail..... mostly because I get SO much spam through the Comcast mail client. ?But I'm having the same problem with Apple mail now - tons of spam.

Do I just need to give it time to recognize the stuff that I'm flagging as junk? ?I find it odd that I'm getting junk mail with the exact same title after having flagged it several times.

I noticed some of this before on my iPad, but I played around with it again this morning.

I've been a frequent user of the "Markup" editing tool in photos and am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue. ?After selecting the Markup tool, I want to add an arrow to a photo. ?Getting to the arrow is a little more complex than it used to be but that's not my problem. ?Once I've selected the arrow and I want to position it on the photo, I find that it's very jerky, where it used to be smooth. ?I could drag the arrow around to just the right location and angle, whereas now it seems to be pinned to certain quadrants (NE, E, SE, S, SW etc). Eventually I can usually get it where I want but not always. ?

?This is due to it now snapping to grid in 45deg increments. ?It makes it almost impossible to point to a location near to one of the snap points. ?It needs a way in which to turn off snap to grid.

Additionally, the middle button on the arrow, which allows you to bend it often doesn't work at all.

I didn’t see this on my iPad, but I did on my iPhone. ?It can be difficult to grab the middle green dot when the arrow is straight. ?However, I didn’t encounter the problem when the arrow is curved. ?Also, it now has a snap to a straight arrow which makes it almost impossible to have a slight bow in an arrow close to the straight line.?
Another feature that I used to use frequently was the magnifier, which allowed you to place a magnified circle anywhere on the photo. ?Drag and drop. ?Then increase or decrease the diameter and the magnification. ?That seems to be gone completely now.

I see a lot of complaints about this, and it hasn’t been fixed in the recent 17.2 revision. ?It’s still in the documentation, but not in markup.
It's rare that Apple takes a good feature and makes it worse, but that seems to be my experience with this.
Please give bug feedback to Apple about these issues, otherwise they won’t be changed. ?The more feedbacks about them then the better chance that Apple will correct them.

Re: SOLVED! missing Menu Bar in High Sierra

I sent the last post too soon. In the photo. The Sylvania is on the left, Roku out of the photo below and to the left of it.

On the right is the Vizio, and the lump on top is a camera. You can’t see the keyboard in front of the Vizio. The late 2012 Mac mini is in the corner, behind the chair. You might be able to make out an Original Mac mini and 3rd gen Airport Extreme. My early MBP also behind the chair. A G4 2002 Quicksilver, PowerMac that has been overclocked and a dual-core added is below the desk in the corner.

In the mess in front of the Sylvania is an old KVM switch, which I will put in place to put a head on the original mini, the G4 tower, and maybe even the MBP, when I tell the Vizio to accept input thru the VGA port.

Re: SOLVED! missing Menu Bar in High Sierra

Yes, misunderstandings, yet again.

I see what I omitted to make you look in that direction.

I intend to use the Vizio as a monitor, not a TV. Think about it for a second. What is a Mac mini, but a headless Mac.

I might have been oriented in that direction as I have in the past used a KVM switch to run 3 Macs, with only 1 monitor. And previously this Vizio was used as both a second display and as a TV.

The conflict I had was with using HDMI. I very briefly said the problem went away when I screen shared with another Mac. (Viewing the mini’s Desktop from my MBP.) Or when Apple Support viewed the mini’s Desktop remotely.

Uou can’t see it from your seat, but the 22” Vizio is sitting next to a 42” Sylvania TV, where my Roku is attached.

And as I said, the only other port to possibly connect the mini is to use the Lightning port, but I don’t think I could find a Ligthning to VGA adapter, which wouldn’t carry the audio.

Bang! Bang!

Otto, let it die. I’ve done trouble shooting for about 50 years.

I don’t have an issue; I just want to know that you’ve tried the Roku with AirPlay as a means of connecting to the TV instead of HDMI directly.

Instead of Mac > HDMI > TV
you will have
Mac > AirPlay > Roku > HDMI > TV

It’s quite amazing the amount of functionality built into the Roku for such a bargain price.

My issue had nothing to do with AirPlay, but a HDMI cable, two older devices and the fact that in the past Apple and the TV industry did not interpret the HDMI standards for the first version the same.

What are your devices doing wrong? The way you wrote it, it sounded as if you were asking me to check a setting to solve my issue.

Sonoma is a just released OS. If it comes up, again, I would suggest calling Apple. You get free support with a new install. This sounds like a bug. I am running an OS, four OS behind Sonoma

I see a number of people complaining online that they can't remove widgets in sonoma. The instructions I've found say to right-click and select "delete" but there's no delete option.

What device is this on, your Mac or your iPhone? I can see from here. What OS are you using? What app are you in when the widget shows up?

I’m leaving for a doctor’s appointment. I will check to see if you have a solution when I get back.

On a Mac, you can squeeze the screenshot down to 2 pixels, and you can mask it with other apps.
