A tip¡.remember I said that those T7¡¯s have no over-provisioning whatsoever? Well, that means that the drive will start slowing down as it fills up. The larger the drive, the farther off that will happen. So it would probably be worth a few extra bucks to get one that is quite a bit bigger than you suspect that you will ever need.

My apologies. I just went from a 2015 MBA (early) to an M2 MBA (16gb / 512gb). I used either a SuperDuper clone or a TimeMachine backup. Either one is very effective. I usually have both in case one fails to restore.

Re: Setting up Brother Laser Printer?

You might try this walk through from Brother.

The key is that you must configure the printer properly for your network first. Once the printer is properly configured for your network with AirPrint enabled (which should be the default), then any modern Apple device on your network should be able to see it via AirPrint and print to it.?

Re: Setting up Brother Laser Printer?

HI

Step 1. Join the network:

Step 2, verify the MacBook is on the same network.

Step 3. Open System (Preferences or Settings) click on View drop down menu choose Printers and Scanners.Depending upon your system you may have a lock if so click the lock, enter your computer password. ?Click the Plus sign above the lock and Add New printer. It should show up as a Bonjour Multifunction Printer. Highlight it and click add. If you are running a more modern system there won¡¯t be a lock but there will be a large Add Printer, Scanner or Fax button to click.

Let us know if that doesn¡¯t work for you.?

Re: SSD Question

Hi Randy,

Thanks for your thoughts. I was thinking along the same lines as you about?its parents. I just mentioned to my hubby about the LaCie being owned by Seagate and he said hell no, you know we stay away from Seagate drives as we've not had good luck with them. I'll be ordering the Samsung rugged just need to decide size.?

Thanks, Patti. I watched a few iPad screen repair YouTube videos yesterday, and it looks like a possible, but formidable undertaking, with a high cost of entry. It does seem that I should be able to find a shop to do it properly for less than half the cost of a new tablet, or possibly bequeath the challenge to my wizard grandson for even less.

I¡¯ll report back.

I can¡¯t give you a lot of guidance, just some hints.

I don¡¯t know anything about the LaCie SSD. I DO know that before Seagate purchased LaCie that their quality had fallen off a cliff. Of there linked to your iCloud (AppleID) login, you can find them all detailed on your iCloud login page and stop the ones you¡¯d like to.

Two examples of the painful interaction between a sand-embedded ¡°Magic¡± keyboard and Apple¡¯s ¡°predictive¡± spell assassin.

Yesterday, I was able, using jackhammer force on my ¡°Magic¡± keyboard, to generate close-to-correct finger-to-screen capture of my intended text (wounded keyboard, brand new 4th gen iPad Pro 11¡±).

This morning, I spent about 10 minutes making multiple passes over that keyboard with a household vacuum cleaner, and it¡¯s now functioning ALMOST normally (the ¡°o¡± key is still sometimes under-responsive).

I¡¯m SO impressed with that improvement that I¡¯ll make a few MORE passes, but now I¡¯m considering the same ¡°therapy" for the injured tablet itself. I suspect that¡¯s MUCH more risky; I worry that the suction may actually lift bits (or larger pieces) of glass right off the cracked and corner-fractured screen itself. Currently, the screen is attached firmly to the case only at its bottom. I can pry it away from the case at the top, and see that the screen remains attached to the electronics board by its routed ribbon cable.

My hope is that getting the remaining sand fragments away from the electronics MIGHT stop the random wandering of the cursor around the screen that starts and stops unpredictably, but I'm concerned that my attempt could actually make it impossible to find out if the electronics themselves are OK, if my ¡°therapy¡± causes more dramatic screen damage. I don¡¯t think I have a whole lot to lose, however.

Any people willing to vote?

Meanwhile, I think I¡¯ve saved about $300 (more than I paid for that household vacuum cleaner)!

1Password Alternative on Sale!

The very popular 1Password had gone to a subscription model, and on top of that, many folks say that they don't like version 8, the newest version of the program.

If you¡¯re looking for a replacement for 1Password that still has a pay once forever plan, Strongbox Lifetime is on sale for $20 off; $69.99. IF you want to try before you buy, there is a free version which will import pretty well from 1Password.

I'm told that Strongbox is quite a bit nicer than 1Password, to make this a no brainer.

Check out this review of Stongbox:

Best deals to be had (today at least) on Amazon:

1 TB in blue $119.96 CAD

2 TB in red? $149.97 CAD ... 25% off!

So for $30 more you get double your capacity! and the best deal if you're not that picky on colour.
