¡what my tire pressure is?

Harry, there is a valve stem with a sensor that reads the pressure & sends it to your car computer.
Sorta expensive to replace one but they are invaluable.

Thanks John. Does it send it wirelessly? Or is the sensor connected by wires and permanently installed in the rim?

Here you go Harry!
John
Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that use valve stems to read tire pressure work by? incorporating wireless sensors within the valve stem itself?(or very close to it, attached to the base).?These sensors measure the tire pressure and transmit this information wirelessly to a receiver in your vehicle, which then alerts you through a dashboard light if the pressure is low. ?

Here is the Car Talk article about the pressure sensors, along with advice about where to get them replaced. (Hint: it's not the dealer.)

A sensor just went out on my Prius and needed to be replaced. The sensors have batteries. The battery in one of the four sensors was dead, and the batteries can¡¯t be replaced, so the whole sensor had to go. I found this Web page informative.

It cost me $93 for the sensor and programming at Big-O Tires. I replaced a tire at the same time.
They certainly don¡¯t communicate with the car using Bluetooth because Bluetooth uses frequencies around 2.4 GHz and the sensors are down around 400 MHz.

? Harry,
Don¡¯t believe a word of it. There¡¯s actually a little guy with a pressure gauge who lives in the rim of your tire (well, actually four of them since you have four tires). They monitor the tire pressure every 10 seconds ¡ª it¡¯s a thankless job ¡ª and report any anomalies to the slightly bigger guy who lives behind your dashboard, who activates a warning message if he thinks it¡¯s warranted.
The reason the tires are so expensive to replace is that they have to pay a rather exorbitant severance fee to each little guy that gets displaced when the new tire is installed. To make matters worse they have a DEI policy that forces them to hire some guagers that aren¡¯t always the most competent. But that¡¯s another story, and I¡¯m pretty sure President Trusk is going to take care of it soon.
