A sensor just went out on my Prius and needed to be replaced. The sensors have batteries. The battery in one of the four sensors was dead, and the batteries can¡¯t be replaced, so the whole sensor had to go. I found this Web page informative.

It cost me $93 for the sensor and programming at Big-O Tires. I replaced a tire at the same time.
They certainly don¡¯t communicate with the car using Bluetooth because Bluetooth uses frequencies around 2.4 GHz and the sensors are down around 400 MHz.
