Thanks, so the only control is to purchase your own modem?

Re: to buy or not to buy a modem
No, I'm thinking locked down means that they have locked me out of seeing things like activity over the modem etc. Out of ignorance, I wonder what could be built into the modem for snooping activity and selling to the highest bidder.

Re: to buy or not to buy a modem
OK... Spectrum brought a modem (the next day at 8am promptly), so I didn't buy a modem. When I went to look online about how to get into the modem to change any settings, all I could find was that Spectrum has the modems locked down so no end user can get into them. Even looking up the modem make and model yields nothing but references to locked-down Spectrum modems. Yay.

Re: Offer from T Mobile and AAA
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Harry, ? We¡¯ve had T-Mobile since they merged with Sprint a few years back and service has been excellent for us so far. We traveled to the Caribbean a year or so ago and we called them ahead of time to confirm service was available. We were on a cruise ship, so only made calls when we were in port, but it wasn¡¯t much and was worth it to be able to check in on my Mom while we were gone. I think it may depend on where you are traveling as to what the fee is, or if there even is one. Here is a link to check on service availability.

Re: Warning notice
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi John, ? I found this info on your error message. I didn¡¯t realize until reading these 2 articles that with the newer OS/File structures there is a hierarchy to how you should run Disk Utility. Also read elsewhere, that if problems persist, you may need to do a clean install of the OS. Seems this happened to a lot of folks after the Sonoma upgrade. Hope it is something Disk Utility will be able to resolve for you. ?

They sometimes can be found for free by googling the title of the article and bypassing Apple¡¯s paywall.

Unfortunately in order to read the article you have to subscribe to the paper.

Re: Offer from T Mobile and AAA
I've got T-mobile, because of the Magenta plan (which is a polite way of saying a 'silver' plan for old folks).

It's pretty good. Mine was $35/month including all fees, with no change in price, ever. So.... when my plan disappeared from T-mobile and I was offered an upgrade, I said 'no'. So... still $35/month inclusive, including Netflix and (maybe Hulu) and (never used) AAA for a year. Coverage is fine. From what I know, T-mobile uses AT&Ts towers where it doesn't have its own. Offer from T Mobile and AAA
In today¡¯s mail I received an offer from AAA to transfer to T Mobile and pay only $30 per line per month (not including fees & taxes). Currently I have AT&T and am paying $91.00 per month for two lines and that includes fees.
What service do you use and are you happy with your service? I haven¡¯t investigated the offer yet but wondering if this is truly a savings how long will it last? Will prices go up in 6 mos. or a year? We sometimes go out of country - if you use T Mobile and go out of country what is there charge for being out of country? Thanks for any help you can give.
