I use other tools because ARD has limitations. If you like the way ARD works, you might check out a nice tool called Screens that I use from the desktop and iOS devices.
That said, ARD does not work between certain combinations of versions of the Mac OS. The good news is that Apple hasn¡¯t deprecated it entirely, yet.
