Re: USB C Hub to USB C

USB-C and Thunderbolt are often conflated. Thunderbolt is basically PCI bus on a wire that happens to also be compatible with USB. That¡¯s why it is so fast. I would gather however that it is tough as shoe leather to put it on a bus out to multiple ports without a bunch of additional circuitry. Most of the multi-port adapters I see have the same number of USB-C ports in as out, so I suspect that no actual ¡°splitting¡± is taking place. On the rare occasion that I find a device with one TB3 in and two TB3 out, they are hundreds of dollars more expensive.

I use an adapter that has ethernet, one USB-C and two USB-3 (and a few others), probably similar to the one you described and since the USB is USB-3 they do an okay job supporting a USB-3 multiport hub with several other items attached.

How do you have more than four things that are USB-C only?

I can¡¯t think of what those might be.

All told I have a power brick, one USB keyboard, two external displays, ethernet, three hard drives, a scanner, three cables for plugging in iOS devices, and a couple other cables that disappear somewhere behind my desk(!), all plugged into one four-port MBP with a plethora of adapters and hubs.

Ah, good times!

Thank you Lee, that¡¯s the problem I continually find, everything is USB A. Your link is the first I¡¯ve seen with USB-C additional ports.

I need additional USB-C ports on the MacBook Pro. The four are not adequate.

I¡¯ve looked and looked for a hub that has USB-C ports instead of the normal HDMI, Ethernet, USB-A, Card slot¡.

Does anyone know if there is such a product?

Does Apple not support additional USB-C ports?
Belkin makes one. <> But, I wouldn¡¯t buy it because it¡¯s USB 3.0 instead of 3.1 and doesn¡¯t do power or video pass-through.

I suspect the reason for them being rare is that all USB peripherals support USB-A connectors right out of the box and only a few support USB-C.
