Apple photo format

In case you haven¡¯t noticed Apple has changed the format of its photos
from .jpg to .heic (high efficiency image file). The .HEIC files take
up half as much space on your iPhone as do .jpg files.

Before I upgraded my computer to Catalina from El Capitan I couldn¡¯t
view the the downloaded photos on my computer. In Catalin Preview will
open the files and so will Photoshop Elements. In preview you can
export the photo to .jpg and in Photoshop Elements you can save the
file in .jpg format. I found this article about the change in format
on the internet.

The article says OS High Sierra and above can handle the files
natively. In the article there is a link to download a converter app
for OS¡¯ below High Sierra. I haven¡¯t tried the app since Preview and
Photoshop do the conversions in Catalina (I didn¡¯t bother to figure
out what was going on before I upgraded to Catalina.
