I have downloaded the windows version and it's working F/B on W2KP.

Nice to hear that is works on Windows 2000 Professional.? The Linux & the Windows versions of this program are identical in all respects.? The code is developed on a Debian Linux OS, my personal favorite.? Linux is a robust multitasking, multiuser system that is ideal for development work.? I then transfer the code over to a Windows XP system and recompile.? No changes allowed along the way!? The only difference is in the C++ libraries that support the serial comms and the graphics interface.? I/O is treated differently on the two platforms and accomodation must be made to the difference between Windows (ms) and X-windows applications.? I should point out that the Fast Light Tool Kit () a LGPL distributed gui design tool is used on both platforms as the library for the graphics interface.? That is why the look and feel is the same on both platforms.
Short of using Knoppix to run the Linux version, are there any
operating differences between OS.
Knoppix is a nice way to test drive Linux.? But I would never recommend this as a long term solution to running specific applications.? If you are comfortable with W2KP and the app runs fine, just stick with it.? On the other hand, if you enjoy having total control over your computer environment, want to be on the leading edge, and put things like DLL conflicts, virus attacks, and OS crashes in your past; I recommend making the switch to Linux.? There are many distributions, each with its own merits, strengths and weaknesses.? Several of the gmfsk-hkj users are running Debian, some Suse, some Red Hat (Fedora), and others Mandrake.? I've probably missed someones favorite distibution.? I like Debian because it is totally GPL which means that all of the OS and apps that are distributed via Debian.org are in the public domain and source code is made available to the user who desires that level of detail.? Debian also has an excellent process for updgrading the apps, libraries and the OS in a way that is nearly invisible to the user.? You are still in control however and upgrades are only downloaded and installed at your request.? Check it out at .
