Publicity for Amateur Radio

Deschutes County just passed a proclamation yesterday declaring "Amateur Radio Week".? Commissioner DeBone is a ham.? I wonder if we can get any Klamath County commissioner interested.?

Tonight's topic will be FIELD DAY, FIELD DAY, FIELD DAY!!!??

Please remember to attend the Field Day on the Last weekend of June.? This year we will be competing with the air show so get there early and plan on operating all night.? Last year we did very well doing FT-8 and CW and I hope this year will be much better.

Also as a head's up on the calendar is the club picnic scheduled for Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 am until 4:00 PM to be held at Wiard Park under the canopy.? In the past to rev up some interest we have been known to schedule a hidden transmitter Fox Hunt in the morning prior to the picnic.

Request for Comments Feedback - Field Day advertising with KLAD

Thank you all for your feedback.

?? The club consensus is that we should not (have to) pay for advertising.? Chuck and I met with Amber at Northwest Broadcasting and discussed the options. $1400 for advertisements and a live feed on Saturday. $650 for two weeks of 24 ad spots, 12 paid and 12 matched because we are non-profit ...? She briefly mentioned PSA's are free for non-profits, with the DJ having discretion of what and when they are announced.
??I want to thank Chuck Huckabay for his effort to bring options to the table. I also want to apologize that we did not establish direction or a budget in advance. I will be requesting a Board Meeting (via Zoom) next Tuesday or Wednesday to talk about our oversights and how to proceed.
?
As it stands, It appears we do not have the time or will to advertise with KLAD this year.?

Comments and ideas are still very much welcome.

Thanx, Jeff Eastburn, K-BAR-A Secretary/Treasurer.

Re: Request for Comments - Field Day advertising with KLAD

When I ran the Klamath County School Club, KC7VWW, we never had to pay for any PSA and advertisements, all coverage with the paper, TV and radio were free, since?Amateur Radio is a PUBLIC SERVICE. ?PSA are free. We had great support when we approach all the media for coverage.?

Re: Request for Comments - Field Day advertising with KLAD

I think if we can get interest from Film Production and Media Studies students as well, it would be great.

We should have a more coordinated, public oriented, Field Day plan before spending that much on advertising. This should have been in an event plan with a budget last year, not weeks before the event.

A much better investment would be large banner that will be reusable for on site use at any event.
