Re: #KBARAhamfest
#KBARAhamfest
Greetings Gina, First the easy one, a hashtag, is a string of uninterrupted?text preceded?by a hash or number sign. i.e. #hashtag They are used to create a grouping of files, documents, or interests based on searching for the hashtag. Pretty much?anything can be searched for on social media or the web using the hashtag. Try searching for #kbara on google, Facebook, or any other social media site and you should see stuff about the club.? As for the hamfest, I have been thinking about the club sponsoring an event for a while now and when Erik J. brought up the topic at the exam session on Tuesday it kind of exploded. Erik brought it up at the club meeting and there was unanimous interest in us hosting an event. Since I can't seem to keep my mouth shut, I am the Chair for the event committee. So what is a hamfest? Think convention; exhibitors, vendors, swap meet, panel discussions, presentations, workshops, VE sessions, all occupying?the fairgrounds for a weekend with people (hopefully) attending from 4 or more states. SEAPAC? is an example of an ARRL partner conference.? We are looking at doing this October (6)7-8(9) 2023 (potentially the 6th for setup and 9th for teardown) If it goes even just reasonably well, it could become?an annual event for us. 73, ~Jon KK6GXG On Thu, Apr 21, 2022 at 2:45 PM Gina L Janelli, KJ7YWK <grealimagepro@...> wrote:

Hi Jon, I am still out here. Just been so blessed with booming business that I have not had a lot of time for ham learning. So what is this all about in short? The only night I would have free would be Thur. or Fri. next week. As untech as I am I don't even know what a hashtag is?. Gina KJ7YWK? #KBARAhamfest
Greetings All,
I spent some time going over the document from the ARRL on setting up a hamfest/convention and I think we are ready to hit the ground running. Even better, my wife, Tammy, who has done event planner/coordinator gigs in the past is also on board. We have done events together and they have all gone very smoothly. That being said, I would like to do a Zoom call in the evening some time next week with everyone to discuss some planning elements to make sure everyone is on board before moving forward.? If you are interested in participating please reply to this thread and let me know when is a good time and day for the Zoom call. I will post the final date and time as a reply to this thread on Monday. I set the hashtag #KBARAhamfest to only send replies to people who FOLLOW the hashtag so we don't swamp anyone's mailbox. |

Re: Tech Net Tonight 8:00 PM beeethere!
Hi Jim,
Easy on the Techs and Novices, someone has to hold down the bottom of the ladder as you guys go up!
Besides with some creativity it's amazing to explore the forbidden zones....................
On the Fox Hunt, I whole heartedly endorse this good fun.? Maybe a handheld Yagi class for us folks that would like to? build one of our own?
Also thanks Jim on the heads up of all the coming dates for club events.
Regards,
Lisa

Tonight's topic will be Field Day scheduled for the last full weekend in June. ? Also as a head's up on the calendar is the club picnic scheduled for Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 am until 4:00 PM to be held at Wiard Park under the canopy.? In the past to rev up some interest we have been known to schedule a hidden transmitter Fox Hunt in the morning prior to the picnic. Oh, and don't forget the SeaPac convention to be held in Seaside Or the first weekend of June. 73, Jim WO7V - "We will never implement some of the features requested, because we never want to be everything to everybody. SeaPac 2022 plans?
Hello KBARA members!
Hope everyone is doing well! Friday, June 3rd through Sunday, June 5th in Seaside, Oregon, will be the 40th annual SeaPac Convention and ARRL Northwestern Division Convention. If you have never been to one of the annual amateur radio conventions and are able to, you won't regret it. Lots of unique and interesting amateur radio oriented vendors, major radio equipment manufacturers, and a flea market with hams from all over with items for sale and trade. There are VE testing sessions, training seminars, luncheons, a banquet, radios setup to operate on the beach, and the infamous ARRL Wouff-Hong ceremony! (Watch out for the Rettysnitch!!!) If you plan to go this year, let the rest of the club know by replying to this thread! If you have any questions about SeaPac and ham conventions that you can't find on the convention website, send a reply to this thread. Many of our members have been to many conventions and will probably have an answer for you. Looking forward to your replies! |

CDCA Exam Sessions
I just posted the rest of the year to the ARRL license Exam schedule. They should be live on the site by Monday.
The dates are: April 19 May 17 June 21 July 19 August 16 September 20 October 18 November 15 December 20 These are all the third Tuesday of the month from 5PM to 7PM (last test starting time is 6:30PM) in Building 7 at KCC. On occasion, particularly during fire season, we may get moved to building 6. When this happens I post a sign on the door of building 7 indicating the change. 73, Jon KK6GXG |
