Every ham that operates HF will eventually find the need for a Balun.? What does a Balun do?? Why would I ever need a Balun?? What are the different types of Baluns?? What is the difference between a Voltage Balun and a Current Balun?? Here is your chance to find out the answer to at least some of these questions and end up with a Balun to use at your QTH.? For those of you who are members of the ARRL, there was an article in your April 2021 issue of QST on page 61 describing the Lake City Radio Klub (LARK) efforts in South Dakota replacing the baluns on their dipole antennas.? What is described is essentially a Balun construction and testing exercise.? ?I thought the local hams might benefit from a similar exercise to build their own 1:1 Current Balun that will handle legal limit power from 160m through 10m.? I have purchased enough materials to construct 10 of these Baluns.? I'm going to reserve 4 of these for myself and the club.? Thus, on some Saturday after Field Day this summer I will be hosting a workshop in my shop to construct Baluns.? ?This workshop will be limited to 6 persons and the cost will be $30 to cover the cost of materials.?
