Look at page 389 of the help file. For a contact to be counted as a 'satellite' contact it must be logged with the PROP_MODE field as "SAT", and the SAT_NAME field as "QO-100" (or whatever).

I must have accidently changed a setting.? In the past I was able to have L32 running in background while performing other tasks with windows32.? Now when I try if L32 starts a contact it takes over

Also, assuming you are using a PDFreader, you can type "Notes" into the search box and it will probably take you to the page stated by Bob. A little research and the use of common sense does wonders.
