Good evening!

This is just a quick reminder that the Richardson Wireless Klub will be launching a high altitude balloon this Saturday! The tentative launch site is Aubrey Middle School in Aubrey TX (north of DFW by a few miles). Launch prep begins at 8:00AM and lift-off is 9:00AM. We expect the radio horizon to cover multiple states when our payloads are at the peak altitude of approximately 100,000ft.

There are several payloads of interest:
* DMR Repeater - 441.0 MHz / CC1 / TS1 / TG99 (single-frequency repeater -- configure your radio as if it were simplex)
* SSTV Transmitter - 433.5 MHz / Robot 36
* Wenet Digital Images - 431.5 MHz / 115.2kbaud -- see live images at
* WA0VYU 6m Parrot Repeater - 52.525 MHz
* K5YR 20m WSPR Beacon
* K5UTD ADS-B Skimmer
* KD5OUG/W5LH Pi Pico Sensor Payload (K5RWK-11 / APRS 144.39)

All are invited to participate with the launch and the chase, or to simply enjoy the payloads from the comfort of your own shack. If nothing else I would recommend leaving your DMR HT on Simplex 1 (per ) and wait for voices from all over the West Gulf region to start being received. Tracking will be at (frequent updates with good telemetry), or via APRS with W5ADC-11 and K5RWK-11.

There are a lot of mildly technical, receiver related projects that you can set up to receive the payloads in your shack. Something as simple as a Raspberry Pi and an RTL-SDR can receive live, digital images using Wenet. Your radio that can receive sideband at UHF (or RTL-SDR) can be used to decode telemetry with Horus GUI. There are several articles that outline how you can participate at: (thanks KD4C!).

We hope to see you at the launch or hear you on the air!

(Please forward this to any other interested clubs/groups/parties)

Belton hamfest

Hambuds, I just paid for 4 indoor tables and one inside parking spot for the Belton swapfest for the hambuds. I will only be using one table? and? the indoor parking spot for the trailer. So if you need to bring "stuff" it will be ok. Any donation to help out the cause would be appreciated but not required.
I am so pumped up for this, as to me, this is a social event for myself.
If you should need help getting stuff there, I can probably help

'73 everybody and lets go to Belton October 4th and 5th.

I ran a little beyond our 5 hour window for making contacts, but managed to make 48 on 160m in about 6 hours. And with some help from our Hambuds, got a couple of then on SSB phone and one on CW.
?
Attached is a map of my contacts during the QSO Party. The wind must have been blowing west to east!

General License Class - Sept/Oct 2024

Need to get your General upgrade? Here is your chance !

We will be starting an in-person General class starting September 21, and will run through November 7th.
Every Saturday from 10AM to 3 PM EXCEPT October 5th, as we know everyone (OK....many of us) will want to go to the Belton Fall Hamfest.

Here is the schedule:

Emacs!

It will be held at :
City of Cedar Park EOC
450 Cypress Creek Rd, Building 6
Cedar Park, TX 78613

For a map and picture of the building, it is the same location where I hold VE Sessions, you can see on that webpage:
We will test the Saturday after the last class at the normally scheduled VE Session. That gives us plenty of time to cover anything you might need to pass your exam.

The way it will run is, you will need to study the chapters of the upcoming class during the week, then we will go over the slide deck, answer questions, and sometimes have hands on stuff/show-n-tell to help it all "sink in".
This will NOT be a class of just memorizing answers. I want you to actually learn and know the material to make you an effective General (which will make it easier when you go for Extra ! -- Im already thinking ahead to THAT class in 2025 sometime....).

I have already received a couple emails asking about missing a day or 2 of the classes.
Im making this available to all, Ill be there every day -- If you have a day or 2 you cant make it, come out for the rest, study up on your own the one(s) you will miss, and when we have Q&A time, ask any questions.

If you or someone you know are interested in upgrading, please email me at Jim@... to get on my list that I will email related info to.

Feel free to forward this to anyone or other forums/reflectors for those who may be interested.
Room occupancy says 100, but Id like to keep it between 20 and 50 to keep it manageable and fun.

Hi John;

You should hide the bracket along with a fox transmitter somewhere in Leander.

First one to find it gets the bracket.
