Re: Coil 3.72 software

Ah. I think I have it!

I was waiting for the fields to clear when I clicked on the arrow/s. For some reason, they don't but it is ok, because you just have to type over the existing numbers.

Found it by accident. Never would have guessed in a million years otherwise.

Thanks and 73, Alek.

Make sure you read the text files.? You will need to create a shortcut and change some of the parameters before it works correctly.

I got 3.79.

Question.

How do you change any of the values/parameters?

When I open the program, it shows a pre calculated example and there seems to be nothing I can do to change frequency, wire size, inductance, etc, etc.

Everything just stays the same.

The whole thing is a waste of time, in my view.

Great info in your posting.? I did not realise that this was why there is usually a large diameter coil in most amps.? I knew it was for the higher frequencies, but never knew exactly why.?

?

An easy way to wind coils with tubing is to fill the tubing with sand or table salt. ?This will prevent the tubing from crushing. ?Pinch one end of the tubing, fill it with whatever material you are using to fill the tube and leave an air gap in the end you filled from.? Pinch it closed and wind your coil.

?

It’s a simple trick but works well.? It’s one of the methods that is used for musical instruments.

In the 70s, toured US Naval Radio Station, Oso, WA (aka "Jim Creek"). At the time, they were pushing 1296A into 0.456Ω (766 kW). They dump the waste heat into Jim Creek. We were told that the creek temperature rises 1° when they have the transmitter cranked up to +3 dBM (2 MW). Oy!

Yeah, that would be a lovely thing to see.

Biggest I've seen here is MW AM broadcast station 6WA, on 558kHz. 100 miles East of me. It was 50kW and it was a walk in transmitter. As a young lad, I got to see it a couple of times, as VK6IQ was one of the engineers working there.

Of course it is now a modular solid state job and all automated.

You should be able to hear it from your joint if the time of day/night is right.

Hi Jim

Thanks for those tips. I have ordered the HT57's

Hi Jim

I will order some HT57's from RFparts. I wont take a gamble with the Chinese copies since they similar in price. I? order 5.

I cant find any other caps with RF current ratings for the higher frequencies. RF parts only has rf current data for the HEC caps. Murata and Toshiba dont make RF ceramic capacitors anymore.? Thompson used to make some good capacitors but they? have stopped as well.? So this just leave the HEC, Dralorics(China) and the Chinese manufacturers. I suppose the?? ultimate option would be a fixed vacuum capacitor. I like HEC's because they will make a compact assembly.

Oren Elliott? no? longer makes? rollers...? just? ?air? variables +? verniers.??

I'm? gonna? buy? some...'conducto? lube' .? ? 75%? pure? silver...and 25%? castor oil.? ?Made for? sliding? contacts.
I? use? High? tech? 3M? air? filters? ?on? the? air? intake? to? both? hb amps.? ?Sealed on? top? side...except for? exhaust.? ? Zero? dust.? ?

My? ?4 x gold? contacts? ?pinch? and slide on? the? sides of the? 3/8" silver? plated? ribbon.? ?It? needs? lube.?

Center? bar? is 1"? square,? silver plated? ?square tubing,? ?with more? sliding contacts (8) on? all? 4? x sides.? ?And? still? more? sliding contacts (4)? ?at? each? end? of? the? sq tubing..where? they? brazed? on silver? plated? discs.?
