Question about Ameritron AL-1200 Amp (Uses one 3CX1200Z7 tube) - "UPDATE!"
Cliff Fox (KU4GW)
Thought I'd let all you guys, 25 replies I received with advice, what a great group of folks you all are! Anyway, I hooked up KN4UNA's AL-1200 amp he received from his uncle's estate, W4WWF Rober "Dale" Mash, that there was nothing wrong with the amp! W4WWF Dale passed away back on May 23, 2017 at age 56 from lung cancer and the amp had been sitting in Dale's house until recently and had not been hooked up in all that time and KN4UNA, P.J., said it arced when he turned it on, but ran fine afterward and he had left it here??with me just?recently to take a look at. Well, I hooked it up last week and ran it for 3 days in succession and I never got a arc, not one in all that time, and I could hear what sounded like the step start circuit slowly bring it up and the cooling fan speed increased a step at a time as it did. I tuned it up and am getting legal limit with 85 watts of drive so there's nothing wrong with it! I guess the arc happened just because it had set for so long and too it could have been some dust although it had one of those embroidered dust covers on it the entire time. The amp looks like brand new! Anyway, wanted to get back to you guys and thank you again for all the suggestions and replies to my original post.?
Very 73! Cliff, KU4GW |

Re: Kilovac relay in MFJ 2020 catalog.
开云体育I use the red Opto 22 SSR in my YC156 and a friend is using it in a GS35B amp to switch around the cut off resistor. I got a truck load of them for nothing, years ago, so I thought I might as well use them. Even faster than a vacuum relay. Cheers, Alek VK6APK On 19/02/2020 11:07 pm, Jim VE7RF

Re: Tokyo Hy Power HL-45B question.
开云体育Assuming that the amp is functional, are you sure you that you don’t have it in standby or that it is being keyed properly by the radio.? You don’t need ALC when then amp is driven with almost any solid-state transceiver. ? 73, ? Steve ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Terry ONeill ? I recently acquired a Tokyo Hypower HL-45B in excellent cosmetic condition. ? I do not have a Yaesu FT817 and attempted to drive the amp with another qrp rig @ 5 watts with no alc cable between the amp & the rig. ? Bottom line I'm only getting 5 watts into my dummy load.? It's as if the amp is not putting out any power. ? My question: Is an ALC connection required to key this amp? ? Thanks ? Terry W8EJO ? |

fl2100Z misery...
David Perry
Oh woe is me.
I have been using the linear with my Tentec Orion quite happily, manually switching the relay not via the rig nor leaving it permanently shorted as when I found it. ?I have been running a max of 500 watts into good SWR. ?My procedure has been to run the rig through the un-energised linear (mains ON, OPERATE not on) and tune for perfect SWR as measured by the rig, the SWR bridge AND the meter on the ATU. ?Then tune up the linear as per manual. ?Then operate on air. All has been good till this morning when I find that running the rig through the linear is fine but as soon as I energise the relay the init SWR goes very high, the rig rolls back and nothing is going anywhere. ? I'm guessing its that relay gone wrong maybe? Anyone met this before? ? Ive got the covers off and apart from some heat and life wear on various resistors (the ones between the anodes particularly ) there's. nothing obviously amiss. David G4YVM |
