Re: Tuned input

I have no problem with the roller inductor in my 10-160m 3CX3K amp.

R&S used roller inductors in most of their transmitters.

There are always other solutions possible.
A relay switched pi network with vacuum variables for instance.
There is no reason not to repair the amplifier if necessary.

I am sure you know that, with all the experience you are proud of.

Gimme a break, cut the guy some slack.? He's had 4 of those 8K's in his shop.? Trying to modify? them might be doable, but what a bitch of a job.? He spends 12 hrs per day, 5-6 days a week, all year round in his shop.? He has more experience than all of us combined.? ?I almost bought a new 8K myself, years ago, from Henry radio.? Decided against it at the last minute. Trying to resonate a tank, using a roller is dicey at best.? Even bear-el cautioned, with his KL-1, saying 1st not to use more than 75 watts of drive while tweaking the roller.... then in 2nd version of the manual, no more than 50 watts. How u are supposed to tweak the tank with less than 200w of drive is beyond me.?

I knew a fellow NE of me who had 3 of the 8k's, and asked if I could fix all of em.? I declined.? They were a mess.? At that point I was glad I didn't buy one myself.?
